AUDEM: The International Journal of Higher Education and Democracy is a scholarly peer-reviewed journal that focuses on many of the initiatives introduced and shared at annual international conferences. Colleagues from varying international academic institutions present on issues related to higher education development in emerging democracies and gather to form collaborative partnerships to advance the initiatives valued by this organization. The composition of this journal is representative of international scholars committed to development of democratic values. AUDEM encourages submissions of articles working from objectivist, interpretive, critical, or other . Given the diversity of perspectives in current research, the journal expects to review a variety of articles representing (1) traditional quantitative or qualitative empirical articles, (2) integrative research reviews, (3) traditional theoretical pieces contributing to new theory, and (4) well-constructed, well-argued conceptual papers that are thought provoking.

Areas of interest for this peer-reviewed journal include, but are not limited to, the following topics: ■ Social Responsibility of Academic Institutions / Sustainability ■ International Academic Partnerships ■ University Partnerships for Education and Citizenship (UPEC) UPEC invites papers on existing UPEC partnerships; on educating young citizens for the challenge of globalization; current trends in democratic transition and development. ■ Societies, Civil Society and Political Regimes in Flux in the Era of Globalization & Economic Crisis We invite papers across a broad range of topics with focus not only on the impact of globalization on families, religion, societies, and the like, but also the impact of the current economic crisis. ■ Role of Global Health and Social Justice in Developing Democratic Societies ■ Inclusion of the Excluded & Marginalized The Roles of Women, Minority Nationalities and Ethnic Groups in Civil Society ■ Developments in Higher Education in Central and Eastern We invite papers on institutional change, new directions in pedagogy, implementing Bologna, universities & Civil society, quality assurance and related topics. We also invite papers on the impact of the current world economic crisis on higher education. How, for example, might the crisis impact mobility of students and faculty, available resources, and the like. ■ Developments in Humanities, Social Sciences, the Arts, and Literature We invite papers on recent developments in art, music, theater, cinema, poetry, and literature (in the context of democracy) and recent developments in academic disciplines and intellectual life (e.g. history, , literary criticism, “public” intellectual life, politics, political science, sociology, etc.).

Instructions Prior to Submission 1. Manuscripts and editorial communication should be submitted electronically to Adrian Popa or Lazarina Topuzova at [email protected] using Microsoft Word. 2. To maintain anonymity and contribute to the integrity of the review, only the title should appear on the manuscript. Attach a cover page with the title of the manuscript, the author(s), affiliation(s), and a complete e-mail and mailing address for the corresponding author. 3. Include an abstract of 150 words or less. 4. Include 3-5 key words. 5. Document to be typed using double-space and one inch margins. 6. References to published works must be cited in text according to the author/date system and listed alphabetically as a separate appendix titled “References at the end of the manuscript.” 7. For other referencing examples, consult The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition. All manuscripts must conform to ethical publication practices as specified in the ethical guidelines published by the American Psychological Association. 8.
