2020 g6 manual transmission

Continue The best practice is to have the objectivity of riding a shotgun whenever a road test is a new car. Worrying about the parent company's financial future or dreaming about previous experiences with former models (car, not fashion) is a great road tester no-no. Independence, impartiality, neutrality and detachment are the steps that lead to zen testing - life in the present. Still, and despite what Edithricks thinks, we're all human. True, bias creeps into our thoughts. Especially when approaching something new, such as the Pontiac G6 GTP , a car that has more luggage than a traveling circus. Overall, when the new G6 was launched last year, it was considered light years ahead of its predecessor - the geriatric Grand Ma, ER, Am - as a ride-hailing and handling response. But, being considered against established players such as the Mazda6 or Volkswagen Jetta, the first-ever G6 is underwhelming. Can the appeal of a sexy, two-door body style and GTP-spec performance update allow my previous G6 luggage to be left at the door? First, the 2006 G6 GTP Coupe is a sight, at least when checking out. Although less than two doors, the exterior of the coupe and chassis size is just like the sedan. There are no changes in the front of the car where the coupe shares the strict style of the G6 sedan. But its swoopy rear resembles a Nissan, especially the way the taillights stretch over the rear wings. As in the G6 sedan, the relationship between seats and pedals is exemplary. The tilt and telescopic steering wheel is standard and there is a spraying plasti-chrome throughout the interior that will remind you that you are in Pontiac. But the quality of the internal plastic and fit and finish is no better than the Honda Accord about two generations ago. There's still no dead pedal, even if you specify a six-speed manual transmission that nullifies the standard four-speed automatic ($330 off your bill) and a remote vehicle starter and power-adjustable pedals from the feature list. Where the G6 two-door improves the sedan with some of the best front buckets in any car, the support and comfort resembles Saab chairs. The optional two-pull leather trim scheme is also upscale Saabish. The basic G6 GT Coupe ($27,995) comes with a 201-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 sedan, a moaning mill that will have you flipping the yellow pages for the exorcist. Add P to the alphabetical equation (and $1890), however, and Pontiac coughs not only 18-inch aluminum wheels, dual chrome exhaust and stability/traction controls, but also one item that should get your attention if you want to drive - 240 hp, 3.9L V6 with variable intake valve time and inlet is manifold. Objectively, 240 horses may not seem special with the Accord Coupe V6 and the new Eclipse Eclipse V6 with four and 23 additional hp respectively. And both are faster to 100 kilometers per hour than Pontiac. Subjectively, however, and compared to the 3.5L unit, the GTP is more of a power-mounted hoot. Immediately in its response, from low in revs all the way to its 6,000-rpm redline, the level of the larger V6 might fool you into thinking you have a small V8 underfoot unit. And Pontiac loosened the electronic babysitters, so you can easily chirp the tires in fact until the third gear in the wet. Hats off to Pontiac's commitment to make the six-th stick accessible. I just want it to be a little more refined in its use - the second or third gear change is especially graunchy. And the need to have a box in reverse to remove the ignition key? Yes? When did Saab engineers sneak into the Pontiac office? Compared to the G6 sedan, the GTP Coupe suspension is tuning a little thicker, with tighter front and rear anti-roll bars, and electric steering a little faster at 2.7 turning locks to lock. But incompatible is a good way to describe both handling and steering. The generous 18-inch rubber first grabs a hard turn. But, then, the car is starting to lean quite a bit, denying any confidence you may have had. And like a G6 sedan, pockmarked roads deliver a sequence of floats, crashes and explosions that will make you think it's time for new shocks. The variable-enabled steering has little feel and is just too light. Look, I've tried independence, impartiality, etc., thing. In fact, I tried very hard. But the final verdict is similar to the verdict of many domestic cars launched over the past 20 years. Is the G6 GTP Coupe better than its predecessor? Definitely. Kudos to Pontiac for car styling, seating and affordable performance updates. But a viable alternative to a competing coupe? Not so much. It was introduced in 2004 for the 2005 model year to replace the Grand Am. The car was built on the GM Epsilon platform, which he shared with the and Saab 9-3 along with other General Motors vehicles. Features included a remote control (standard on GT, not necessarily on the base model), traction/ABS control, electronic stability control, automatic headlights, and a panoramic version of the hatch. Production ended in 2010 with the end of the Pontiac line. Its name comes from the successor to the , and serves as the sixth generation of the Grand Am, hence the G6. The name change from Grand Am to G6 also served as the standard for most future models. For example, the was a class above the G6, while the Pontiac G5 was a class below. The item also hearkens back to the , another midsize car. A review of the Pontiac G6 GTP sedan Pontiac G6 coupe Interior Pontiac G6 was first introduced in 2003 at the North American International Auto Show as a concept car. The concept used a 3.5 litre supercharged V6 that made 285 horsepower and 272 pound-feet of torque in a pair with a 4T65-E electronic automatic transmission. When the G6 was introduced in 2005, it had two trim levels, a basic V6 and a sporty GT. Both finishes, however, used a 3.5 litre pushrod V6 produced 200 horsepower (150 kW) and 220 pound-feet (300 nm) of torque. In a match with a four-speed automatic transmission, the GT showed TAPshift where the driver could choose the gears manually. The basic models were well equipped, featuring power locks, windows and mirrors with a keyless entry, six-way CD stereo, power driver seat, air conditioning and split folding back seat. GTs added eight Monsoon stereo speakers, premium fabric seats with six capable adjustments, remote-running, abs and traction control. In 2006, the G6 added two new trims and two new bodywork, a coupe and a retractable hard top convertible. The new trims include a new base four-cylinder (sometimes referred to as SE) and a high performance GTP. and were gt and GTP only. The new base model used a 169-horsepower, 2.4 L DOHC in-line-4, paired with a four-speed automatic The 3.5 L V6 is currently part of the sports package at base/SE, and has remained standard on the GT. The new GTP used a 3.9-liter version of the GT 3.5 litre V6, but also uses variable valve synchronization (VVT), increasing power to 240 horsepower. The four-speed automatic transmission was standard, but free, a six-speed manual transmission was available. The GTP convertible was not available with a manual transmission and reduced its power to 227 hp, due to a more restrictive exhaust system. GTP also featured standard electronic stability control. The 2007 G6 saw more engine changes, and the standard side torso and side curtain airbags (actually introduced at the end of the 2006 model year) were new. The GT now featured the VVT on its 3.5 litre V6, increasing power from 200 hp to 224 hp 3.9 litres of V6 became an option on the GT, producing 227 horsepower in an automatic transmission and 240 horsepower in the form of a manual transmission. The GTP received a new 3.6 litre DOHC V6 with 24 valves and a VVT, producing 252 horsepower at 6300 rpm. In the middle of the model year, the six-speed manual gearbox was dropped from 3.9 litres, as well as its 240-horsepower output. The GTP convertible was also discontinued. In 2008, gtP became the GXP with more dramatic styling signals, and the 3.9 liter engine became an exclusive convertible option, with horsepower up to 222. SAE ratings also lowered the horsepower rating on 2.4 hp and 3.5 hp models to 164 hp and 219 hp (217 hp on convertibles), respectively. In 2009, 2.4 litres of four-cylinder engines were added to the coupe line. The all-new 6-speed automatic transmission, which debuted on the Chevrolet Malibu, has become optional on four-cylinder models. GM revised the G6 in mid-2009, creating the 2009.5 model year. The changes consisted of a revised front and rear fascia, as well as a redesign of the dashboard, primarily adding an updated Bluetooth radio. Coupe and convertibles ceased production at the end of the 2009 model year, making examples since the 2009.5 changes quite rarely. Following the introduction of this model, General Motors announced the discontinuation of production of the G6 sedan in 2010. Most other Pontiac models were discontinued, but the G6 was in high demand for fleet orders, making it easier for production to continue while the brand was eliminated. In 2010, the G6 had white dashboard taillights instead of the traditional pontiac red color scheme. GM began marketing the brand in Mexico to replace Pontiac after the 2009 model year, GM replaced the Pontiac G6 competitively with , and then in the United States and Canada, the G6 and were eventually replaced by GM revived Buick Regal The Pontiac G6 convertible was later replaced by the , which was sold as a Buick in the United States in early 2016. Security The Insurance Institute for Road Safety gave the Pontiac G6 an overall good score in the frontal offset crash test, but an acceptable score in the side impact crash test, even though the side airbags were introduced at the end of the 2006 model year. The lower side impact score was partly due to the marginal rating of the structure/safety cell category. The 2005 GXP concept 2005 GXP concept was built by General Motors Performance Division. It includes a 3.6 litre HO VVTI V6 engine with a capacity of 275 hp (205 kW), an F40 six-speed manual transmission, performance consumption, a GM Performance cat-back exhaust with bright tips, and a 19-inch wheel with Bridgestone Potenza RE040 255 series of tires. It was presented at SEMA in 2004 and later sold on eBay Motors. The auction ended on May 3, 2009 with a winning bid of US$16,500.00. Marketing Launch G6 was a major publicity stunt: 276 cars were given to viewers of Oprah Winfrey's show on the talk show's fall 2004 season premiere. This promotion, along with a reported US$110 million advertising campaign, tried to garner national attention for the brand-new G6. On September 12, 2014, Autoblog did follow the individuals who won the car on the tenth anniversary of the telecast. The interview winners learned that although they did get a car from Winfrey during the broadcast, in reality they had to go to a Pontiac dealership in their area to pick up the G6 because the vehicles that were shown outside the studio parking lot were used as an encouragement. One couple had to sell their G6s because they learned about the tax consequences that came with owning a car, while another was holding her, although her two friends who came with her on film no longer have them (one was sold, the other was in total in the crash) and hoped to give the G6 to her daughter on time to college, saying: I hope to drive it until we can drive it anymore. Weight-saving features include carbon fiber body panels that are resistant to polycarbonate windows. Custom chassis frame tubes are not based on the chassis of a road car and the 6-speed gearbox provides power to the rear wheels. The front and rear wings flared out to cover the wide, 18-inch wheels and class-special Hoosier racing tires. The rear wing, resembling a package of sports options on a race car, is installed at the back, under racing the rear wing. The first recall (NHTSA campaign 06V417000) was for Pontiac G6 cars with aftermarket seat upgrades. To speed up sales at some dealerships, GM authorized seats to be replaced by leather seats as the dealer installed option. This change may result in the passenger airbag sensor not detecting the passenger. GM has taken the rare step of buying back any cars that this dealer installed option. The Second Recall (NHTSA Campaign 09V036000) affected 8012 MY 2005-2006 G6 vehicles, and corrected the potential corrosion that affected the brake light wiring, and could cause brake lights not to illuminate. On September 21, 2012, General Motors recalled 473,841 vehicles featuring Chevy Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura from 2007 to 2010, equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission. The problem is the condition that can make cars roll when in the park. The recall affects 426,240 in the United States, 40,029 in Canada and 7,572 in other markets. This recall is an extension of a much smaller 2011 recall on some 2009/2009.5 MY vehicles that have experienced the same condition. GM expanded the recall in 2012 after finding the problem was not isolated in this model year. In 2014, GM recalled a state in which the transmission change cable could break. The fracture prevents the driver from selecting gear and can cause the vehicle to move in an unintended direction. Inquiries : Pontiac Grand Am'cite note-1 - IIHS-HLDI: Pontiac G6.
