(Reference) On August 26, 2011, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology issued a notice entitled “Reduction of Dose Rates in School Buildings and Schoolyards, etc. in Fukushima Prefecture” (Notice No. 452 (23 Monka-Su) issued by the Director-General, Lifelong Learning Policy Bureau, etc.) and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare issued a notice entitled “Reduction of Dose Rates in Nursery Center Buildings and Nursery Center Yards, etc. in Fukushima Prefecture” (Notice No. 3 (Kojihatsu 0826) issued by the Director-General, Equal Employment, Children and Families Bureau). These notices specify that permissible dose rates that children and students receive at schools or at nursery centers after summer vacation shall be 1mSv or less per year, in principle. In order to achieve this, the guideline for air dose rates in schoolyards and playgrounds is set to be less than 1 μSv/h, taking into consideration behavioral patterns of children and students. However, even if air dose rates exceed 1 μSv/h, outdoor activities do not need to be restricted.
