Bookingyour Whatceremony you need to do first If you want to marry or form a civil partnership, both you and your partner must:

• come to the register office and give notice, even if you're getting married/forming a partnership somewhere else • have lived in or Wales for at least eight days

A notice is:

• valid for twelve months after the superintendent registers it • only valid for the venue on the notice - if you change your mind you'll both need to give new notices and pay another fee • £35 for each notice – per person (payable by credit or debit card)

We will:

• display the notice at the register office for 28 clear days, so you must give at least thirty days notice then issue an authority for the marriage/partnership

If the marriage/partnership is in a church other than Church of England, you must either:

• collect the certificate and take it to the church before the date of marriage • ask us to post the certificate to your home address, for you to deliver to the church before the date of marriage.

We have an intimate registrar’s room available with views overlooking the River Tyne and access to a private balcony. The River Suite will accommodate the bridal party and up to 10 guests. CivilCeremonyLegal Preliminaries To be able to marry in a register office, approved venue or religious building the law requires that you undergo certain preliminaries prior to the ceremony.

However if you wish to marry in a Church of England then you must speak to the parish minister of your chosen church. Giving legal notice of intention to marry/form a civil partnership:

You must both attend the register office in the district in which you reside usually at the same time. If either or both of you are subject to immigration control then you must attend a designated register office to do this.

You must both have lived in the Registration district for at least seven clear days immediately before attending your local register office. If this is North Tyneside then please call the register office on 0191 643 6164 and option three to make an appointment.

Notice must be given in person at the Register Office and must be done at least 28 clear days, and not more than one year, before the date of marriage/civil partnership.

Documentsyou need to provide When giving notice you are required to provide evidence of name, nationality, date of birth and place of residence. If you have been married/through a civil partnership then you must provide the relevant documents i.e. decree absolute, death certificate to prove you are free to marry.

All documents should be originals as photocopies are not accepted and in the case of foreign documents they must have an English translation.

For those who have changed their name, evidence is required in the form of a name change document.

For parties under the age of 18 years of age you must contact the Register Office for further information on documents.

For further advice on this please contact the register office you will be attending.

Please note: The marriage/civil partnership cannot go ahead unless the legal preliminaries have been completed. A provisional booking is just that, until legal notice of marriage/civil partnership has been given. Notices cannot be given on behalf of a person by email, fax or post.
