!& MIN. BID FEBRUARY RARE SOUL AUCTION & A FLUFFY FALANA MY LITTLE COTTAGE (BY ALPHA 007 M- 467 THE SEA) One of a number of great records spun in the later Casino years by one R. Searling. Turns out that Fluffy (whose name was Avelio), was a minor actor who appeared in ‘Shaft In Africa’ amongst other films, also the brother of singer/actress Lola Falana. Perfectly mint copy. B JOHNNY GUITAR AIN’T GONNA MOVE JOWAT 118 M- 350 WATSON Obviously owned at one time by one ‘Sharon Jones’, that is the only flaw on this otherwise perfect copy. Clearly this was Watson’s own label but this great dancer is also a track on the Williams and Watson ‘Two For The Price Of One’ album, however this is the first release and a 45 that has always been tricky to locate. C HERB WARD HONEST TO GOODNESS RCA 9688 D M- 350 Written by one of the Formations and sung superbly by Herbert Eugene McCracken as part of Gerard Purrell’s GWP Production set-up. It’s a 1968 release which retains many of the sympathies of the ‘golden era’ whilst looking forward to a new sound. Ward died on Christmas Eve 2012. D ROGER HATCHER SWEETEST GIRL IN THE EXCELLO 2297 M- 250 WORLD D Edwin Starr’s cousin on a fabulous midtempo item which we normally set-sale. So why auction this one? Well on a promo/demo copy this really is a rarity. Normally the promo is only the flipside ‘I’m Gonna Dedicate My Song To You’ pressed up on both sides, and indeed this copy states ‘plug side’ on that side but fortunately contains this beauty on the reverse. E EDWARD HAMILTON BABY DON’T YOU WEEP MARY JANE M- 310 1005 Slightly rarer with ‘A Mike Terry Arr’ on the label details. A superb, scarcely-played, mint copy. How many copies spun over decades by deejays can claim such a thing? Ian Levine takes the credit for playing this one. F HOBEY DODD & THE TOUCH ME VIBRANT 938 M- 200 SOULS ORCHESTRA Storming rarity on a tiny label out of Newport, Tennessee has loads of potential for the right enterprising deejay. Nice deep soul flipside too ‘Living With Myself’. Amazingly, it would seem that Dodd is/was a blue-eyed singer (like many N.Soul tracks). ! ! G THE O’JAYS I’LL NEVER FORGET YOU IMPERIAL 66162 M- 162 WD Again, not an item we would normally auction but we think it’s quite a bit rarer on a white promo which is only on vinyl copies rather than the more commonly seen styrene with a green and yellow (ish) label. Sheer Detroit brilliance of course, tho’ the O’Jays were not Detroit-based at all. H DONI BURDICK BARI TRACK SOUND M- 880 IMPRESSION 6808 You may not know the full story on this… back in ’77 we found 310 copies of this record in a shop in Detroit but never another copy. The engineer and owner of the recording studio later told us that only 500 copies were EVER made. This means that a tiny quantity only ever escaped the shop ‘lot’, this explains why no-one ever finds it in the U.S. or ever has. As for the 300 or so – well it’s over 40 years ago now and they have regressed to a few indeed. I THE DYNAMICS I NEED YOUR LOVE RCA 9084 DJ M- 210 Funny how, in later years, some of these RCA records have become valued as the gems they are but were comparatively ignored in the seventies. The Metros ‘Since I Found My Baby’ is another good example of this syndrome but back in the day you could’ve swapped four of them from Gia Mateo or ‘Interplay’. J DUKE BROWNER CRYING OVER YOU IMPACT 1008 VG+ 265 All the above records are in mighty fine condition, much better, being virtually new, than you would on the whole, find at an all-nighter. But this 45 from Duke Browner is the exception being fairly worn after being found in Detroit itself (and there are precious few mint sixties left in the Motor City now) but it plays very nicely indeed. Check the soundbite for an accurate reproduction of the disc. !

£100 SOUL PACKS (INC P&P) 100 mostly mint, U.S. label soul 45s. A mixture of Northern, sixties, seventies, deep, sweet ballads, funk. You will be pleasantly surprised at some of the titles in here…. And its carriage paid.
