SEASON’S CHANGING CCC board approves phlebotomy course fees ❏ Program to consist of four classes worth 10 credits to be taken in one semester. By Jamie Cushman STAFF WRITER [email protected] CLOVIS — The morning after vampires walked the streets on Halloween night, Clovis Community College decided to do some blood drawing of its own. At the CCC Board of Trustees regular monthly meeting on Wednesday morning the board unanimously approved fees asso- ciated with a new phlebotomy course to be offered by the Allied Health Department starting in the spring. Executive Vice President Robin Jones said the program will consist of four classes totaling 10 credits, which must all be taken during the same semester. There are $300 of fees associated with the new program. Jones said the program can likely service about 12 to 15 students in the first semester but could expand in the future. Candidate accused of stalking SANTA FE — A man run- ning for New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District seat is accused of felony stalking. Santa Fe police say 39- year-old David Alcon of Milan stalked a woman and sent her threatening mes- sages last weekend. Alcon is one of four Democrats running for the U.S. House seat now held by Republican Rep. Steve Pearce, who is running for governor. Online court records don’t list an attorney who could comment on the allegations. Alcon is the son of Democratic state Rep. Eliseo Alcon of Milan. A woman who answered The Associated Press’ call to a phone listed in the father’s name said the son was unavailable to comment. Man faces 8th DWI charge JAL — A southeastern New Mexico man is facing his eighth drunken driving charge after police say he shot a truck’s window. The Hobbs News-Sun reports that Jesus P. Herrera was arrested last week in Jal. The officer said Herrera was spotted speeding and had bloodshot watery eyes and “very slurred” speech when he got out of his car. Police say the 46-year-old was arrested after he was uncooperative during sobri- ety tests. Authorities say the officer found a nearly empty whiskey bottle and a 12- gauge shotgun inside Herrera’s car. He was later linked to a truck with a shot out window. Records show that Herrera had been charged seven times for driving under the influence.
