Voluntary organisations have begun to think Europe and community development in rural areas;

One in three people do some voluntary work in Wales and

WCVA's action to support this enormous effort includes:

23 Volunteering in Wales Fund

In 1991 WCVA launched a new fund to promote These grants initiated or supported:

volunteering - the Volunteering in Wales Fund. This fund

replaced the former Opportunities for Volunteering O volunteer bureaux in Merthyr, Newtown, Llandrindod

scheme and invited voluntary organisations to put forward Wells, Clwyd, Crickhowell and Barry; proposals for: O Women's Aid projects in Abergavenny, Carmarthen,

O projects or programmes which recruit and place Radnorshire and Cardigan;

volunteers;

O advice agencies in Cardiff, Barry, South Riverside and

O projects which develop good practice in volunteering; Swansea;

O projects which are volunteer based and have difficulty O legal advice services in Cardiff;

in attracting funds from other sources; O planning advice in Cardiff;

O appropriate projects in areas where volunteering is under-developed. O mental health projects in Gwent, Swansea and Mid

Powys;

During 1991/2 40 grants were made from 105

applications, costing £215,000. O a Welsh Information Centre for the Manic Depression Fellowship;

As a result, it is estimated that opportunities were created

for 1600 new volunteers in a variety of projects in Wales. O bereavement and counselling services in North Ceredigion, Rhondda, Cardiff, Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan;

WCVA also made grants of £.20,000 from the Esmee

Fairbairn Charitable Trust to support 27 voluntary organisations in Wales and agreed to administer money raised at the Garden Festival.
