I am proud to serve the citizens of Washington State as the 15th Secretary of State.

One of the things that I’ve taken the most pride in my time has been watching the astounding generosity of our state employees through the Combined Fund Drive.

The Combined Fund Drive is an outstanding program that allows thousands of state employees and retirees to donate to their favorite charities. In the 30 years since its creation, the Combined Fund Drive has raised over $120 million for local, national and global charities through statewide fundraisers and payroll contribution.

For the first time in more than five years, the Combined Fund Drive saw an increase in both pledged dollars and total donors.

A huge thank you goes out to all of our volunteers and donors that made this year so succesful. Through your tireless efforts and generous contributions, you have made a difference in our community statewide through charities that serve those in need.

Making a World of Difference Our Mission

Empowering Washington public employees and retirees to strengthen communities through the funding and support of charities. The Combined Fund Drive (CFD) is Washington State’s workplace giving program for active and retired public employees. State and higher education employees are invited to give to the charity of their choice through payroll contribution and agency fundraising events.

For 30 years, the Washington State Combined Fund Drive has set the standard of giving amongst similar workplace giving programs. With the help of our incredible volunteers, and the generous gifts from every participant, the CFD has helped strengthen our community through sustained contibutions.

Each year, over 15,000 active and retired public employees pledge more than $5 million to 5,000 local, national and global charities. To date, Washington State employees have donated over $120 million to the charity members of the Combined Fund Drive.

The Combined Fund Drive is here to make your charitable donation experience as easy and en- joyable as possible.

Giving is one of the most important and personal decisions we all make in our daily lives, and the CFD pledges to remain responsible with the wishes of its donors and needs of its member chari- ties.

Whatever your passion, the CFD has an avenue to support it.

Who is Eligible? Washington State law allows three different kinds of donors to participate in the Combined Fund Drive:

State Employees More than 60,000 potential donors work within agencies across the state. Each employee is eligible to give through payroll contribution or at an agency fundraising event.

Higher Education personnel Over 42,000 donors can participate in the CFD across the state, ranging from technical and community colleges to staff and faculty of four-year universities. Donors can even give back to their own institutions through their foundations.

Retirees Over 100,000 retirees reside in the state of Washington and that number only continues to grow. The CFD reaches these retirees through mailings, brochures and presence at events centered around state retired personnel.

Other organizations have also decided to use the Combined Fund Drive as their main method of giving through payroll contribution.

Seattle Housing Authority About 500 employees work for the Seattle Housing Authority.

Port of Olympia The Port of Olympia is a municipality that participates in payroll contribution through the CFD. There are about 45 employees that are eligible to give at the Port of Olympia.

The Combined Fund Drive is the only public giving program in the country that tracks volunteer hours. The estimated average dollar value for volunteer time in Washington state is more than $26 per hour. This means that state and higher education employees saved charities in their communities more than $57,000 in paid staff time during 2014.

Page 10 30th Birthday Party

They came, they saw, they took pictures with the Lombardi Trophy...

What started off as a small celebration became one of the biggest events of the year as the Combined Fund Drive celebrated its 30th Birthday on July 24th in style. There were burgers and brats, the first beer garden ever housed on the Capitol Campus in Olympia, and appearances from Governor Jay Inslee and Secretary of State Kim Wyman.

That would have been more than enough to satisfy the crowd, but the CFD went even further by working with the Seattle Seahawks to get the real Lombardi Trophy to be a part of the festivities. Guests paid $10 and had the opportunity to have their picture taken with the trophy.

A live auction was also conducted during the celebration, with a set of Seahawks tickets and a South African photo safari going to the highest bidders.

The event was not only a celebration of the incredible accomplishments of the CFD and its donors over the past three decades, but also raised more than $7,000 for the program.

Page 11 2014 Golf for Veterans Tournament

The Combined Fund Drive was proud to partner with the North King Regional Office of DSHS to present the second annual Golf for Veterans Tournament. More than 100 eager golfers came together on a beautiful Saturday morning in September to honor our veterans and their families by playing for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Eagles Pride Golf Course on Fort Lewis was a gorgeous venue for the event, which was bigger and better than the year before. There were contests, raffles, dinner and even a rousing live auction. When it was all said and done, the event raised more than $14,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Golfers were greeted at each hole by a sponsor, which was either one of the CFD’s generous corporate partners or a member charity of the program.

“It was a great way to get to know some different charities.” one golfer said. “It was a really fun way to connect with them.” Event sponsored by:

The Legislative Building is usually considered the place where many statewide officials are headquartered and where state lawmakers meet each winter to do the business of the people.

But it was Olympia’s social epicenter on October 10th, as more than 300 people gathered there for the third annual Combined Fund Drive Masquerade Ball.

The Office of Secretary of State, CFD and Department of Archeology and Historic Preservation once again co-hosted the event. Secretary of State Kim Wyman not only attended the ball, she also greeted attendees. Various forms of entertainment were found on each floor, including the popular casino night in the Columbia Room on the first floor and psychics reading tarot cards in the Treasurer’s Office. Professional photographs of the attendees were taken in the State Reception Room.

The Ball raised close to $8,000 (after expenses) for the CFD (last year’s Ball raised more than $6,000). There were 28 different charities on hand to connect with donors through vendor booths on the fourth floor of the building. There was also a silent auction featuring Cardinals-Seahawks tickets, a silver bracelet and a vintage pearl necklace, among other items for sale.

The CFD gives thanks to all attendees, volunteers and performers.

Donations collected at agency fundraising events, along with sponsorship agreements made with corporate partners and interest generated on the money housed in the CFD bank account all make up the total income the program reports.

Interest As with any bank account, the CFD accumulates interest on the money it accrues.
