How to cook (Indonesian Fried )

I know this recipe is a little off-topic since Nasi Goreng is an Indonesian recipe for . ‘Nasi’ means ‘rice’ and ‘goreng’ is ‘fried’ in Indonesian. However, if you follow my Instagram @sirinyaann you know that I love any kind of fried rice. What is more, Nasi Goreng is particularly popular in Southern Thailand and can be found thoughout Thailand as well. In addition, this dish is convenient because you can take your leftover rice to prepare this meal.

In comparison to Thai and Chinese fried rice, Nasi Goreng seems to be generally stronger in taste because a lot of sweet (kecap manis) is used for preparing the dish. Here is what you need to prepare 2 portions:

3 cups of cooked basmati rice (leftover rice is best) 125 g cooked prawns or chicken breast (optional) ½ cup of shredded asian cabbage or leech ½ cup of thinly sliced carrot ¼ cup of peppers, sliced 1/8 cup of peas ½ onion and/or spring onion ½ clove of , chopped some finely sliced , as to taste (optional) 2 TSP brown sugar 2 TSP sweet soy sauce 1 TSP fish sauce ½ TSP shrimp or chilli paste 1 TSP 1 egg per person, i.e. 2 eggs for 2 portions

Preparation:

Take a pan or and heat the vegetable oil on a medium heat, put in the chopped garlic, onions and ginger. Cook until fragrant, than add in the chicken or prawns (optionally), the shrimp or chilli paste, the cabbage or leech and carrots (or other vegetables that you prefer, e.g. peppers, peas). Stir- fry until well combined. If needed, add in a bit more oil and add the rice. Mix everything together well. Add the soy and fish sauce and palm sugar. Stir und mix until everything is well combined ad let it cook for some minutes. In another pan, fry the eggs sunny side up or make an omelette.

Put the Nasi Goreng on a plate and a sunny side up egg on top. You’re ready to serve

Have a nice meal!

Yours, Sirinya
