Summer Work – Politics

Over the summer it’s essential that all students prepare for their new courses, so that everyone can start college in a positive way. Excellent Politics students are always prepared for learning and are organised for every lesson.

This summer work will get you ready for your Politics course and ensure you can contribute to your first induction lesson. Please bring your summer work with you as you will need it during the lesson sin the first week.

If you haven’t got one already, download a news app to your phone. To study Politics properly you must be aware of the news in regard to politics and be able to use your knowledge of contemporary events as examples in your work and class discussions.

Task 1

Over the summer we would like you to keep a diary of key political events that happen.

You must then find at least two different points of view from sources with different opinions that help explain these political events.

These events may be local, national or international in nature.

Task 2

Use the information you have collected to produce a report of 500 words (approx. 1 - 1 and a half sides of A4) about the political events of the summer.

At your first lesson you will need

1. Your research grid (additional notes/ article if required). 2. Your report of 500 or more words 3. Folder, paper and pens

Extension Activity: Write an extra concluding paragraph deciding which evet will have the biggest on the people affected, how it will affect them specifically and why is it a good or bad thing? This could be a small group, a village, a larger group, the LGBT+ community or even a country.
