By Jason Thompson Gulf Breeze News© 2018 [email protected] The Gulf Breeze ninth grade football team used a long kickoff return and a pair of PHS fumbles to beat the Tigers 20-0 Thursday at Dolphin Stadium. Chase Rodgerson ran the opening kickoff back 60 yards. Three plays later, Rodgerson scored from four yards out. John Irving’s kick with 9:00 left in the first quarter made it 7-0. Rodgerson had 98 yards rushing on 18 carries. He also caught two passes for 36 yards. Malachi Mason intercepted a Nate Simmons pass to end the next drive, but a holding and an illegal procedure call led to a GBHS punt. Simmons finished with 199 total yards (108 yards rushing, 91 yards passing). The Tigers drove inside the Dolphin 10-yard line on its next series before a Bryson Wick sack eventually led to a turnover on downs. The Tigers recovered a GBHS fumble two plays later before PHS turned it over on downs inside the Dolphin 10- yard line. Both teams traded turnovers on downs before the Tigers intercepted a Carson Hepworth pass. Two plays later, the half ended with the Dolphins lead- ing 7-0.
