Uttoxeter Rural Parish Council

The URPC has now successfully had the chicane installed in Bramshall. The site of the chicane was offered for public consultation and after listening to residents’ concerns about it being in the middle of the village, the site was moved and plans were put onto the website. The Parish Council have been advised that the chicane will take at least 6 months to show any signs of success, as currently drivers are still getting used to the fact that it is there. The Councillors have asked Staffordshire County Council to come and have a site visit, to see if more signage is needed for drivers and an update will be minuted once it has taken place.

To view all Parish Council minutes, please visit the Parish Council website https://uttoxeterruralparishcouncil.org.uk/

The Parish Council would like to thank all residents who took part in the public consultation, your views were invaluable and have ensured that the chicane is now sited in the location requested by residents."

Also, please be aware of the following: Hedge/Hedgerow cutting - You must not do any work which might harm nesting birds or destroy their nests. You’ll usually find nesting birds during the main nesting and breeding season from 1 March to 31 August. To look up the full guidance, please visit the government website: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/countryside-hedgerows-regulation-and- management

Church News The Uttoxeter Area of Parishes Parish Church of St. Lawrence Bramshall Vicar Revd John Lander [email protected] 565228

In response to the current Coronavirus pandemic, the Church of has suspended public worship, with the exception of weddings and funerals (subject to strict regulations, including numbers attending). This is an appropriate decision, but to offer a spiritual sanctuary St. Lawrence’s Church will be open for private prayer during the following times:

Saturday 10.00am - 4.00pm Sunday 10.00am - 4.00pm

It also hoped to ring the church bells for approximately 5 mins prior to what would have been the principal service on Sunday mornings as a sign of our continued unity in the Spirit.

The Annual Parochial Church Meeting has been postponed until a later date - to be advised.

World Day Of Prayer – this was held in church on the evening of Friday 6th March and this year we hosted the event for our area. A good number came along to hear the service specially written by the women of Zimbabwe. A big thank you to all who assisted with refreshments and help on the evening, it was very much appreciated.

Lent Lunch at 9 Overcroft - thank you again for those who turned up on the day (Wednesday 11th March) to enjoy a jacket potato and filling – we raised over £110 in very generations donations. Thank you.

BRAMSHALL AND DISTRICT GARDENING CLUB

Matt Nichols gave a very interesting talk on all the different varieties of fruit grown on their farm. They now have a cafe on site so you can go and pick your own fruit and then relax with a hot drink afterwards. Was amazed to hear that they grow forced Rhubarb on the farm - this is a wonderful plant that is known to come from Yorkshire - a very small triangle around Wakefield. Being from Yorkshire I was somewhat surprised to hear that it was grown in Staffordshire !!! Matt seemed a very nice easy going chap and he showed some interesting pictures.

Sadly, along with government guidelines, the 2019-2020 programme has had to be cancelled. Never mind, we can all focus on our gardens and, perhaps, grow some vegetables for a change… every little helps!!

Fashion Show – Many thanks to all who turned up to view Tom’s wares on Friday 13th March. I do hope you managed to find a few bargains – he does aim to please on the sizes etc but of course it’s what is available at the time. We raised just over £100 and this has been split between Parish Hall funds and Church.

Friday 8th May & Saturday 9th May

Now postponed due to social distancing and isolation necessities.

One Man, Many Lorries

In response to a request for information about the lorry featured on the front page of last month’s News Sheet, it was the intention to run a small feature on Mick Corbishley and his lorries- so let’s make a start.

The Bedford in this photograph on the right is a replica of Corbishley’s cattle trucks of the 40’s and 50’s. The green implement on the front of the truck bed is a straw chopper manufactured in 1874 by Bamfords in Uttoxeter. The yellow machine at the rear is a Bamford’s ‘Wuffler’ hay making machine.

The above photograph depicts a signal box being transported from its original site at the Hockley Road crossings to the Foxfield steam railway line. It is believed the move took place in 1980.

AS some of you know I do walk round the village around 8am most mornings - I am very kindly taken by my dog !! I have noticed since Christmas however the large number of dog poos that are being left on pavements, some on the way through the church yard and some on cut lawns walking up Stocks Lane. Dog owners do you really think it is safe to leave dog poos on pavements ? Have you ever trod in one and slipped ? Please for the safety and health of residents in our village pick up your dogs mess. Thank you

Penny Gilpin
