CIBC Mellon supports its clients’ goals of doing well by doing right, too, from supporting social finance investment activities to our Client CSR program.

We support our employees throughout the workday and beyond, with a total rewards benefits package, education support, and recognition of their passion for community involvement, both during and outside of working hours.

Partnering with local and national nonprofit organizations, we support a broad variety of causes that matter to our employees. We are involved in our communities, whether by planting a community garden or campaigning for United Way.

Employees are encouraged to recommend organizations that could be supported with volunteering opportunities, and to organize volunteering events during work hours.

In 2019, employees found many ways to make a difference, including:

• Cooking community meals at a homeless shelter • Sorting donations at a local animal shelter

• Packing back-to-school supply kits for kids in need • Weeding and harvesting crops on a community urban farm

• Running food drives • Cleaning and repainting a community centre

To further support the organizations that matter most to our employees, CIBC Mellon donates $100 per employee volunteer for events. When employees volunteer with a United Way agency, CIBC Mellon donates an additional $100 to United Way.

Employees lead fundraising teams in support of causes that matter most to them, including the Heart & Stroke Foundation Big Bike, The Weekend to Conquer Cancer and CIBC’s Run for the Cure.

Ambassador program

To support employees who make a difference in their communities outside of working hours, CIBC Mellon’s Ambassador program provides annual donations of up to $1,500 to support organizations where an employee has volunteered for at least 40 hours.

In 2019, CIBC Mellon awarded 21 Ambassador grants to support the causes that matter most to our employees.

United Way

Each year, a team of employees runs CIBC Mellon’s United Way campaign. In 2019, the campaign raised more than $300,000, which includes a 50% match from CIBC Mellon on all employee donations.

When CIBC Mellon moved its corporate headquarters to 1 York Street, we strove to incorporate sustainable choices. Thanks to green thinking throughout the design and move process, we achieved a Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. This certification recognizes our sustainability efforts in areas including reducing water and energy use, choosing sustainable, recyclable and local materials where possible, and recycling and compost programs to divert waste from landfills. The LEED Gold certification recognizes CIBC Mellon’s commitment to creating office spaces that work for our employees and the environment.
