2019 Ncbwa Directory 2019 NCBWA DIRECTORY National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCBWA INFORMATION THE NCBWA NATIONAL COLLEGIATE BASEBALL WRITERS ASSOCIATION Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a directory, updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America and Freshmen All- America voting.     SF Giants Press Clips Wednesday, March 7, 2018 San Francisco Chronicle Tim Lincecum joins Rangers with new contract, heavy heart John Shea SURPRISE, Ariz. — For the first time in his big-league career, Tim Lincecum will wear a number other than 55. He’ll wear 44. “In honor of my brother,” Lincecum said Tuesday after working out at the Texas Rangers’ training facility. “That was his number. Either 12 or 44. Twelve was taken. So it’s 44.” Sean Lincecum, a major part of Tim Lincecum’s upbringing and an inspiration for Tim’s stellar pitching career with the Giants, died last month at 37. He was four years older than Tim, who threw on a side field Tuesday with a heavy heart, the memory of Sean fresh in his mind as he began the next chapter of his career with his third team. Tim flew to Arizona after attending Sean’s funeral Saturday. “That’s a tough thing to put into words right now,” said Lincecum, who declined to specify his brother’s cause of death. “I’ve been thinking about it a lot with the services happening a couple of days ago. For me, I always looked up to my brother. He was an idol for me. He just had a lot of bad runs with choices he made in life. That’s where we’re at right now.” Lincecum’s close relationship with his father, Chris, is well-chronicled. Chris has been his mentor, coach and friend and taught him nonconforming mechanics that helped him flourish in the big leagues.

The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, whom will be announced May 20, 2021. Ballots will be sent to the national voting committee at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 7, 2021. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 23rd Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on July 1, 2021. Because the Buster Posey Award strives to honor the top collegiate catcher in a season, a 2020 recipient was not named due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of the collegiate baseball season.     A’s News Clips, Monday, January 31, 2011 Seattle GM downplays Figgins-to-A's talk Zduriencik says plan remains for veteran to stay with Mariners By Jane Lee and Greg Johns / MLB.com Despite several reports that the Mariners and A's are talking about swapping third basemen Chone Figgins and Kevin Kouzmanoff, Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik said Friday his plan remains for Figgins to be with the Mariners this season. The Contra Costa Times was the first to report that Oakland was pursuing Figgins in exchange for Kouzmanoff and possibly a pitcher. "I'm looking forward to Figgins being our starting third baseman," Zduriencik said. "He'll be here tomorrow [for the Mariners' FanFest]. He's been agreeable to moving back to third base and that's our plan, to have Chone be our Opening Day third baseman." Oakland officials have not commented on the report. The A's previously -- and unsuccessfully -- attempted to lure in Adrian Beltre this winter, signaling the notion that they're not entirely satisfied with Kouzmanoff. Beltre ultimately turned down a six-year deal worth $76 million from Oakland in favor of a tour with the Rangers. It marked the second straight year in which Beltre spurned an offer from the A's, who subsequently avoided arbitration with Kouzmanoff last week by way of a one-year, $4.75 million contract. The 29-year-old Kouzmanoff compiled career lows in batting average (.247), on-base percentage (.283), slugging percentage (.396) and OPS (.679) in 2010 but also led the team with 16 home runs and 71 RBIs.

  • Tony Robichaux 1961-2019
    IN MEMORIAM TONY ROBICHAUX 1961-2019 Tony Robichaux spent 25 seasons as the leader of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and took the baseball program to new heights. Robichaux coached 29 All-Americans, five Academic All-Americans, 90 All-Sun Belt players and 55 All-Louisiana players in his 25 years with the Cajuns. During that time, he coached six Sun Belt Pitchers of the Year, two Sun Belt Players of the Year, two Sun Belt Newcomers of the Year, three Sun Belt Freshmen of the Year, three All-Louisiana Pitchers of the Year, one All-Louisiana Player of the Year and five All-Louisiana Newcomers of the Year. Robichaux took Louisiana to its only College World Series appearance in 2000 and won over 1,000 career games. Yet, that’s not how Robichaux will be remembered. He will be remembered and honored as someone who left behind a legacy of servant leadership and compassion that extended beyond the baseball diamond and into the lives of the thousands of student- athletes and staff he impacted during his career.
