His 11-under 133 is his career-best 36-hole total on PGA TOUR Champions. • Flesch hit 17 of 18 Greens in Regulation on Saturday, and through 36 holes he is T2 in that category (31 of 36). • Flesch will start the final round as a leader/co-leader for the first time on PGA TOUR Champions. It is the first time he is a Saturday-night leader since the 2007 Turning Stone Resort Championship, the last of his four wins on the PGA TOUR. • He will play in Sunday’s final group for the first time since he won the 2018 Mitsubishi Electric Classic. At that tournament, the second and final rounds were played on Saturday and groups were not re-paired after the second round (he was second through 18 holes and T4 through 36 holes). • This season, Flesch’s best finish was T5 at the Hoag Classic and he is currently 32nd in the Charles Schwab Cup. Second-Round Lead Notes • In each of the tournament’s first three years, the champion has erased a final-round deficit of two shots or more. Last year, Scott McCarron shot a final-round 64 to erase a two-stroke deficit and win by one at 15-under. • This season, players leading/co-leading entering the final round have won eight out of 13 tournaments. Steve Stricker, 67-67 – 134 (-10) • Stricker earned a share of the lead when he chipped-in for eagle on the par-5 16th, one of just two eagles on that hole on Saturday. He closed with two pars to post a 5-under 67 and a 10-under total. • He was 6-under on the par 5s Saturday and he leads the field in par-5 scoring this week (10-under). • Stricker will play in Sunday’s final group for the second time this season. At the Regions Tradition, he led by two at the start of the final round before closing with a 68 to win his first major title by six. • On PGA TOUR Champions, he owns four victories, three runner-up finishes and 15 finishes in the top 10 in just 19 events played. He is currently 12th in the Charles Schwab Cup. Billy Andrade, 68-66 – 134 (-10) • Andrade birdied four of the five par 5s on Saturday en route to a 66. Through two rounds, he is 6-under on the par 5s (T2 in the field). • Andrade will play in Sunday’s final group for the second time this season. At the Rapiscan Systems Classic, he shot a final-round 71 and finished third. • Andrade’s last win was the 2015 Charles Schwab Cup Championship, the most recent of his three wins on Tour. A victory on Sunday would end a winless drought of 85 tournaments, a span of 3 years, 7 months, 15 days. • He has T2 finishes in two of his last four starts (Regions Tradition, Mastercard Japan Championship) and he is No. 7 in the Charles Schwab Cup, his highest position in the standings since August 2016. Duffy Waldorf, 67-67 – 134 (-10) • Waldorf is the only player bogey-free through two rounds as he has recorded two rounds of 5-under 67 to sit 10- under (T2) entering the final day. • In eight years on Tour, it is just the fifth time he has entered the final round T2 or better. Both his victories on Tour has come from a second-round lead. • The start is Waldorf’s 13th of the year. His best finish came at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship when he finished T8 after shooting two rounds under par. Jerry Kelly, 65-70 – 135 (-9) • Kelly’s bogey-free streak ended at 67 holes when he bogeyed the par-3 17th. He carded a 2-under 70 and is T5 at 9-under. • His last win was at the 2018 Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, and he has 16 top-10s in 33 starts since that victory. • Kelly entered this week having finished in the top-10 in his last three starts and in five of his last six, and he’s currently No. 9 in the Charles Schwab Cup. Other Notes • Making his tournament debut, Retief Goosen carded a bogey-free 66, his second-best score on PGA TOUR Champions (65, Chubb Classic/second round). He is T5 at 9-under 135. • Tom Pernice Jr. is T5 at 9-under after opening with rounds of 68-67. It’s the first time this season he’s posted back-to-back rounds in the 60s. • Defending champion and Charles Schwab Cup leader Scott McCarron shot a second-round 67 and is T12 at 6- under. • Shaun Micheel made two eagles on Saturday (par-5 No. 9 and par-4 No. 15) en route to a 4-under 68. It is the 12th time a player has made two eagles in one round this season. Making his sixth start on PGA TOUR Champions since turning 50 on January 5, Micheel is T12 at 6-under. • After shooting a first-round 73, Ken Tanigawa carded a 7-under 65, tied with Steve Flesch for the day’s best round.
