THE PENINSULA — DOHA

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has closed two retail outlets in Umm Lekhba and Labor City for violating the Ministry’s circulars regarding precautionary and preventive measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and for failing to meet general and special requirements. These measures come as part of the Ministry’s efforts to monitor and reg- ulate markets and commercial activ- ities across Qatar, monitor the degree of compliance with laws and regulations governing commercial activities, and follow up on compliance with the Min- istry’s circulars COVID-19 safety measures. The Ministry stressed that it would neither tolerate any negligence in terms of meeting obligations stipulated in Law No. (5) of 2015 on Commercial, Indus- trial and Similar Public Shops, and Street Vendors, nor would it allow violation of the circulars regarding precautionary and preventive measures to preserve public health. The Ministry said it would intensify its inspection campaigns to control vio- lating practices. Any party who violates laws and Ministerial decisions will be referred to the competent authorities, who will take appropriate measures against violators to protect consumer rights.
