Alberto Hurtado University (UAH)

UAH was founded in 1997 by the with the purpose of building on the research and graduate programs initiated by the Latin American Institute of Doctrine and Social Studies (ILADES), the Center for Research and Education Development (CIDE) and Roberto Bellarmino Foundation which commenced in the middle of the sixties. Since its founding mission, UAH has been conceived as an institution with a strong vocation for public service. Its contribution to the human development and the promotion of a more just society, both in Chile and Latin America, becomes visible through the excellence level of an academic, intellectual and professional work, characterised by a Christian, humanist, pluralist vision and a deep ethical and social sense. Currently UAH has more than 4,500 students enrolled in 28 undergraduate programs, 18 master’s degree, 41 certificates and one PhD., consolidating itself as one of the main universities in the following areas: Social Sciences, Humanities, Philosophy, Education, Law and Psychology.

Intensive Spanish program A 48-hour program over three or four weeks is offered. It is organised by professors specialising in the teaching of Spanish to non-native speakers.

A pre-semester Intensive Spanish Program is available for exchange students interested in improving their language proficiency.

ACU students can take subjects Programs for exchange/Foreign Students: from the following faculties • Intensive Spanish program (mentioned above) • Poverty and Development course intended especially for foreign students. Provides theoretical training in aspects of poverty and social justice and also allows students to work directly on a Social Project with people living in situations of marginality and poverty. • "Latin American Culture" course taught in English and aims to explore the cultures, societies and history of Latin American countries, analysing a series of topics covering culture, politics, religion and society, among others. • "Human Rights in Chile" course taught in English and addresses the issue of human rights from the perspective of memory and field of historicity, recognizing the struggles for memory of the recent past that have developed in Chile over the past 27 years. • “Destinations that change” course taught in English. Students will explore how exposure to an external and foreign environment modifies and enlarges their world view, in addition to the consolidation of their identity and their discernment.
