The “Haut-Chablais” land and know-how are an invitation to head up the mountain for real!

Traditionally, the Alpine pastures in the Haut-Chablais have been used by many local farmers, and so they hold a fundamental place in the region’s economy and the identity of the “terroir”. Every year, farmers still give visitors the chance to take part in a real cattle drive up the mountain (“emmontagnée”). This is no folkloric invention or recreation, as many farms open their doors to visitors for this fabulous event. It’s an exceptional chance to share an expe- rience with a farming family, which involves an early morning milking and cheese-making before the cattle drive gets under way to the meadows. In May : cattle drives and cow combat with the Herens breed; at the end of September to early October, the cows are brought down the mountain again (“démontagnée”).
