HEAD COACH MARK JOHNSON ith strong ties to Wisconsin hockey as a coach’s son, player and assistant coach, Johnson stepped into the role of head women’s hockey coach beginning with the 2002-03 season. During his tenure, Johnson and the Badgers have shattered both school and national W records. Johnson has established Wisconsin’s rank among the elite in college women’s hockey. Under his direction, Wisconsin has compiled five NCAA titles, eight Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoff titles and seven WCHA regular-season crowns. Johnson and the Badgers were the first team ever to land in the NCAA championship game in four consecutive seasons, winning the title three times (2006, 2007, 2009). „ A five-time American Hockey Coaches’ Association Division I Coach of the Year, Johnson led the Badgers to their fourth national title in 2010-11 while posting a 37-2-2 record, setting a then-NCAA record for most wins in a single season. The Badgers also claimed the WCHA regular- season and playoff titles en route to winning their fourth national championship in six years. „ Five Badgers have won the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award under Johnson. As an encore in 2006-07, the team successfully defended all three titles while posting a 36-1-4 record. „ Johnson guided the 2010 U.S. Olympic team to the silver medal at the XXI Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia.
