PROYECTO CASPOSO 3º Informe de Monitoreo de Fauna de Vertebrados Responsable: Lic. Juan Carlos Acosta Introducción El plan de monitoreo de la fauna de vertebrados presentes en el Proyecto Casposo y área de influencia directa de este, tiene por objeto dar cumplimiento a lo requerido en el artículo 2 inciso 9 de la Resolución Nº 163-SEM-2007 mediante la cual se aprobó el Informe de Impacto Ambiental para la Etapa de Explotación del citado emprendimiento minero. Objetivo general El objetivo de este informe es presentar los datos del tercer monitoreo de vertebrados realizado en el Proyecto Casposo con el fin de determinar los parámetros poblacionales y comunitarios para el periodo reproductivo de las especies en los sitios y parcelas de monitoreo ya fijados, utilizando métodos estandarizados para cada grupo faunístico, y las especies bioindicadoras ya definidas en el monitoreo 1. Metodología de trabajo Generalidades sobre la metodología Se incluyeron los siguientes grupos faunísticos: Anfibios, Reptiles, Aves y Mamíferos, utilizándose para ello la Técnica de Muestreo Estratificado en áreas de alta heterogeneidad ambiental, o bien Muestreo al Azar o Sistemático en sectores mas homogéneos o dentro de cada estrato (Tellería, 1986). Los muestreos se realizaron por separado para los distintos taxa de vertebrados debido a que los métodos y técnicas para generar los datos para calcular los parámetros buscados en cada grupo son diferentes, como así también los horarios de actividad de cada grupo faunístico, su distribución en el espacio y esfuerzo de muestreo. Se utilizaron las parcelas, puntos o transectas de monitoreo ya marcadas en terreno de forma permanente (marcas de pintura codificadas) y georeferenciadas en el monitoreo 1. -

Debido a la fragmentación de esta información encontrada en registros bibliográficos, se tomó como objetivo reunir y actualizar esta información, determinar cuál es la ofidiofauna del Chaco y de sus subregiones, y elaborar mapas de registros de cada una de las especies. Además se analizó la diversidad funcional, taxonómica y filogenética entre las subregiones chaqueñas, bajo la hipótesis de que las características ambientales condicionan la diversidad funcional, -

AbstrAct. various species of frogs produce foam nests that hold their eggs during development. we examined the external morphology and histology of structures associated with foam nest production in frogs of the genus Leptodactylus and a few other taxa. we found that the posterior convolutions of the oviducts in all mature female foam-nesting frogs that we examined were enlarged and compressed into globular structures. this organ-like portion of the oviduct has been called a “foam gland” and these structures almost certainly produce the secretion that is beaten by rhythmic limb movements into foam that forms the nest. however, the label “foam gland” is a misnomer because the structures are simply enlarged and tightly folded regions of the pars convoluta of the oviduct, rather than a separate structure; we suggest the name pars convoluta dilata (pcd) for this feature. -

While the reproductive strategies of Leiuperinae are known, few studies have been conducted regarding the reproductive behaviour that underlies them. The aim of this study was to document the structural characteristics of nesting microsites, to describe the process of foam nest construction, and to explore the presence of male agonistic and chorus behaviour in Pleurodema tucumanum. Nests were found close to the edge of a temporary pond and the mean temperature of the foam nests was always close to the mean temperature of the pond water. -

We examined 1651 specimens collected between 1940 and 2010. Overall abnormality prevalence was 4.4% for post- metamorphic individuals. The most common types of abnormalities affected the hindlimbs, and concerned reductions in the number of phalanges. Abnormality prevalence for post-metamorphic individuals did not vary by species or region, but varied temporally over the 50 year dataset. Overall abnormality prevalence was higher for tadpoles (30%), and the most common types of abnormality were extraneous projections in the marginal papillae of oral discs. In tadpoles, abnormality types varied among species, development stages and affected oral disc regions. Abstract A new species of lizard of the genus Liolaemus from Neuquén Province, western Argentina, is described. The new species is a member of the Liolaemus rothi species complex, and mitochondrial and nuclear molecular data show it as sister taxon of the clade composed of (L. hermannunezi (L. tromen + L. loboi)), differing in size, squamation, coloration, and sexual dimorphism from the other species of this group. Liolaemus sitesi sp. nov. has a dark body coloration with series of notched blotches on the dorsum, with bright spots, and a very iridescent yellow-green coloration in natural light. Liolaemus sitesi sp. nov. is found only in the Auca Mahuida volcano and is terrestrial, dwelling on the stony slopes with sandy soil between 1300 m and the volcano summit. South American racers of the tribe Philodryadini are a widespread and diverse group of Neotropical snakes with a complex taxonomic and systematic history. Recent studies failed to present a robust phylogenetic hypothesis for the tribe, mainly due to incomplete taxon sampling. Here we provide the most extensive molecular phylogenetic analysis of Philodryadini available so far, including 20 species (83% of the known diversity) from which six were not sampled previously.
