Despite allowing San Francisco to start with the ball, the Vikings made a positive start, with Andrew Sendejo blocking a field goal attempt from Phil Dawson's 28 yards that Marcus Sherels returned for 44 yards to san Francisco's 26-yard line. Minnesota quarterback Teddy Bridgewater couldn't complete a single pass on the next drive, forcing Blair Walsh to attempt a field goal from 44 yards; However, he pushed it to the right. After forcing the 49ers to kick the next series, the Vikings had to kick themselves soon after, only for former 49ers rugby league star Jarryd Hayne to set up the catch, allowing the Vikings to return the ball. The next drive saw the Vikings try to convert on 4-3, but Bridgewater's pass to tight end Kyle Rudolph fell a yard short of a new Downs set. Both sides traded kicks early in the second quarter when the 49ers eventually returned 185 yards for a touchdown, only for it to be called back for an illegal block by a San Francisco player. However, possession ended with a 49ers touchdown driving 93 yards in just under 5 minutes, before Carlos Hyde finished the series with a 10-yard touchdown; After finding no place to go on the initial right run, he beat the Minnesota defender with a spin move and ran back to the left side of the field, where quarterback Colin Kaepernick led him to the finish line. When theWicks failed to score in the remaining 47 seconds, the first half ended at 0:7 to San Francisco. Minnesota opened the third quarter with the ball, but they couldn't get out of their own half before they had to kick. The 49ers increased their lead on possession, driving a 73-yarder to the Minnesota 11-yard line to set up a field-goal attempt from 30 yards to Dawson. The Vikings finally got on the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter when Welsh finished a 66-yard drive with a 37-yard field goal, but the 49ers pulled ahead with a second touchdown to Hyde on a 17-yard run. Bridgewater tried to spark the Vikings back into the game, but a deep pass intended for Rudolph was stopped by Tremaine Brock, who set up a 25-yard field goal for Dawson. The next drive saw the Vikings go for it again on fourth-and-8, but Bridgewater was dismissed for a 14-yard loss, allowing the 49ers to kneel for the game.
