Dear Editor:

As Louisiana responds and adapts to the unprec- edented challenges introduced by the COVID-19 outbreak, the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) and Louisiana Department of Education are actively working with districts state- wide to chart a course for our early learning centers and K-12 education. Despite the current closure of school facilities and the disruption of the academic year, instruction and learning must continue and every local district must have a long-range plan. State education leaders are committed to support- ing and guiding school systems to accomplish this as we all move forward. A vital piece of the puzzle is the selection of the next State Superintendent of Education. The BESE work group charged with identifying and vetting candidates for the Board’s consideration has main- tained its focus on that task, and BESE expects to be making its decision on this appointment in the weeks ahead. Selecting the right Superintendent to lead our state is arguably the most important task of the Board, especially at this critical time. RETIRED ATTORNEY OFFERING AT YOUR HOME SERVICES FOR WILLS ,SUCCESSIONS AND POWERS OF ATTORNEY

Following my 43 year law practice retirement in 2017, I have prepared and offi ciated hundreds of wills and powers of attorney in my “House Call” Services for clients who call on me for this important work to be done.

Unless you have a child under the age of 24 or one any age at your death (who because of mental incapacity or physical infi rmity is permanently incapable of taking care of his person or Administering his estate), in most instances you have the legal right to leave all or part of your property and assets to anyone if you execute an enforceable will before dying.

Louisiana Law provides automatic inheritance without a will to classes of survivors such as sur- viving children, collaterals and parents, but you will need to execute an enforceable will if you desire to leave all or parts of your estate to non-relatives, or if you want to be specifi c as to who inherits what.

Dying without an enforceable will means that Louisiana Law determines who will inherit from you. Leaving an enforceable will allows the comfort of knowing which specifi c persons will inherit specifi c assets from you.

Wills will be prepared after I meet with you in your home, and will be formally executed in your home. My services will be from $150 to $300 - with no additional costs or expenses - and the client will receive a written binding quote before I leave your house. A will can easily be changed or revoked.

Powers of attorney are important to allow a person’s spouse, relative or trusted friend to conduct his business and take charge of his medical treatment in times of disability. They are cancellable at will. Fee for preparation is $150, with no additional costs or expenses.
