THE MATCHUP The Spires finished 2017 with a 4-7 overall record and have high hopes for the 2018 season...The Spires were preseason picked eighth in the KCAC, despite bringing back a heavy nucleus of returners...Today, the Spires matchup with Tabor College who is ranked 18th in the NAIA Preseason Coaches Top 25 Poll...Tabor finished 2017 with an 8-2 overall record and were ranked 17th in the country at the end of the season... Drevion Cooper returns to the Blue Jays backfield after leading the team with 1,218 rushing yards and scoring 11 touchdowns...Tabor however, will have to replace Curry Parham after he threw for 1,863 yards and totaled 28 touchdowns through the air and on the ground...The Spires return Drew Cortez at quarterback, as he will look to improve upon a year in which he passed for 3,637 yards and 24 touchdowns...Rhyler Estenbaum also returns to the backfield after leading the Spires with 300 rushing yards and scoring two touchdowns...Bryan Barnhart returns in the receiving core after recording 594 yards and three scores on 44 receptions...He also rushed for 62 yards on 13 carries...The Spires leading tackler from last season also returns in Chandler Cocklin...In 2017, Cocklin recorded 73 total tackles and had one fumble recovery.
