In addition to the notes set out in the Volvo Cork Week Notice of Race the offshore race in the Beaufort Cup is a Category 3 race as per the ‘ISAF Offshore Special Regulations’. Each yacht is also required to have onboard a life raft of sufficient size to cater for the total number of ewcr onboard and hold a valid in-date service certificate for the raft.

The inaugural Beaufort Cup Regatta in July 2016 is being held in Cork Harbour, Ireland, as part of the highly successful Volvo Cork Week. It is part of a series of Government supported National and International commemorations in 2016 to recognise the significant events that took place a century ago leading to the creation of an independent Irish Republic. The Beaufort Cup is named after Sir Francis Beaufort, creator of the Beaufort Wind Scale who was born in Ireland. Beaufort’s contribution to maritime affairs is already celebrated in Cork Harbour by the Beaufort Laboratory, one of the world’s largest wave energy research facilities and home to the Centre for Marine and Renewable Energy Ireland (MaREI).
