After Avengers vs. Unlike the DC New 52 launch, Now hit the stands with nothing bad in the bunch. Even as some books declined as the period wore on, we got other amazing winners in the intermediate waves. Books from before Now only count if they made it through No series that were explicitly disclaimed as limited short series that got cut off by Secret Wars do count. Two volumes of a book by the same author or with continuous story count as one entry — like Daredevil Volume 3 and Volume 4, both by Waid, or Iron Man and Superior Iron Man. The pinnacle of what Marvel Now had to offer in every regard. It has my highest recommendation. Utter perfection in every issue. A wry love-letter to the totally zany Marvel comics of the 60s, where space contained the most improbable things. It was a delight to see Dan Slott step away from his Spidey-mode and push his storytelling to the limits. It makes me wish he had the time and inclination to start up some indie Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1, but this is even better — a classic, never-better take on a character who has gone a bit under-appreciated in the past few years. No way to go wrong there. Start with Silver Surfer, Vol. This has everything you could hope for from a series starring the weather goddess and Wakandan ex-royalty, from humanitarian missions to hand-to-hand combat to thievery to clashing with the FBI. Get it all: Storm Vol. Who knew something so bad would feel so, so Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 Spider-Man as a reluctant hero and a recovering villain made for some of the most page-turning issues in his recent history. Even as this All-New Peter Parker reversed his infamous Parker Luck, Dan Slott piled on the misfortune for New York City until the scales tipped and our Superior hero had to make some challenging choices when it came to his newfound Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1. They say that good stories sometimes put their characters through the worst, and never has that been so enjoyable. I am not a Deadpool fan. If you like even the idea of the Merc With a Mouth with a half-decayed secret heart of gold you must read this Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1. Start with Deadpool Deluxe Hardcover, Vol. This sort of clever, indie-style book that elevates minor characters into majors is one of the things Marvel does best in the NOW era, and despite declining sales this book was every bit as clever as the similar tone and look on Hawkeye — and usually a lot more fun to read. Even fill-ins from James Asmus struck the right tone. A major success. Who would have ever thought that villain would be , the carrot- topped constant failure who habitually plagues the X-Men and Spider-Man for no reason other than his own amusement? Dennis Hopeless drew together dozens of disparate characters and themes to craft a Marvel-style Battle Royale or Hunger Games, yet there were twists within beyond either of those two works. If only Hopeless got another 10 or 20 issues to extend his ideas on Undercover! Yet, even the aborted themes of descent and redemption there were crafted perfectly. Start with Avengers Arena, Vol. Was it worth the wait for Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 issue? Sounds like a surefire miss, right? Instead, it was a glorious, twisted, Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 run that breathed life into a Magneto who has been humbled for many years. This run touched many parts of his long and somewhat-mangled history, from surviving the Holocaust in Germany to the genocide of mutants in E for Extinction. I was expecting a X-Men: First Class cash-in, but instead we got some of the best stories every written about this villain. Start with Magneto, Vol. Secret Avengers Vol. Also, Deadpool. Start with Secret Avengers, Vol. As nimble as its title character, Daredevil is a title that hops genres and tones and never gets caught off-guard. If it is, then Odin is going to strike me down where I stand. Start with Loki: Agent of Asgard, Vol. There were so many small moments in this run where we saw the human connections that result from battling alongside each other for years. Whether it was the Stark vs. Start with Avengers Assemble: Science Bros or visit the guide. As we rolled into a second and third set of stories the bigger villain arc got less interesting and the interpersonal relationships got stronger. It will be interesting to see what G. Willow Wilson does with the next volume to set up a nemesis for Kamala. Start with Ms. Marvel by Wilson Deluxe Hardcover, Vol. Finally, Elektra who is more than just a killer or just a killer pair of legs and sais! While every move seemed to entangle her further in a plot where she had no control, instead of seeing a defeated hero we met one who grew ever more determined. Get it all with Elektra Vol. Keep reading for the books that I recommend and ask you to kindly consider, plus a few I think you ought to avoid. This series has been well done from top to bottom. Visit the guide. This book was a perfect smash hit that should have turned into a franchise, a point underlined by the assignment of workhorse perfectionist Salvador Larocca on art duties. This was a dire Cable that was still a riot to read, thanks to pairing his trying to thwart Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 visions with a team of screw-ups and cast-offs left over from the rest of Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 X-Men draft picks. Yet, the real victory here was a focus on Hope as a real, round-character wondering what she is supposed to do with her life after saving the world … really, just save it again? Ghost Rider as a Latino teen driving a souped-up car with super-deformed, angular artwork? It sounds like a train-wreck, but it was a total hot-rod. Marvel Now really struck the right tone when it came to introducing young, new heroes, and this little-read title was among the best of the bunch. The catch? Marvel made a smart move in positioning Journey as an Asgard anthology title that would follow a different hero one volume at a time, but erred in not giving it a true relaunch. Kathryn Immonen did her best Marvel work turning Sif into a motivated character you could root for Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 first time in at least a decade maybe since Simonson and artist Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 Schiti broke into stardom with searing colors from Jordie Bellaire. Plus: Beta Ray Bill! How did this mega-hit ever fail? This book was destined to Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 a throw-away, just one more volume to fill in the Wolverine void for a year before the big reset button got pressed. A hidden gem in Marvel now. Maybe only a throw- away could have been this good. Taylor showed just how dangerous and selfish Tony Stark could really be if his heart was in the wrong place, but also how much more of a success he could be if Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 ditched his altruism entirely. took a youthful Avengers team that was as much superheroes as they were the O. This book made an undeniable star out of Miss America Chavez, took Prodigy from discarded X-Men to relevant character, and did something new and a little uncomfortable with gay teen heartthrobs Wiccan and Hulking. Strange Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 Scarlet Witch before they each had a shot at a solo title. It took the Time Runs Out leap ahead Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 escalate this to the amazing territory it touched up front, but the payoff never felt Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 of the lead-up. Still, in one lump sum it may seem more fantastic and less of a fizzle. Why are we reading this again? Because Nick Spencer hit his full stride with weirdo, outsider anti-heroes with Superior Foes of Spider-Man and this book was a more focused, less serialized shot at the same vibe. Charles Soule took one of the strongest woman in the Marvel Universe and made her physical strength an afterthought. A pair of issues with hideous art is really the only drawback to this very enjoyable run mostly illustrated with a decidedly 60s flair by Javier Pullido. Corsair and Xavier both have constantly-failing moral compasses, but boy do they yield different results! All fan-service, all the time? Yes, this was full of nods to tons of FF stories both new and old and their unexplored ramifications. More than that, it was an example of how easily non-super forces could dissect a team whose only mandate was Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 be a family. Kirk is a massive part of that, a secret weapon who makes heroes animated and distinct in a way that Mark Bagley perfected over a decade ago. Peter David returned to the original creation after nearly 20 years away with Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 sense of verve and wonder than writers born in that period should aspire to. That made for a very readable run that was beautifully unmoored from complicated continuity. Maybe it was because some of these characters were such blank slates that any story could fit them. The first trade of this book was perfect comic writing and perfect art from DC defector Marcus To … really, just perfect. This wonderful and completely-ignored title tells us some truths about modern-day Marvel. Jeff Parker seriously did every single thing right in playing Betty Ross as both a super-fugitive and also an unlikely defender of time and space. No thanks, right? Well… read the stories first. Wolverine alone on an alien planet. Wolverine as a bootlegger. Wolverine protecting African Elephants from poachers. As the stories got less and less super-heroic and more human the book got more and more fascinating until it was must- read territory for me. What should have been an easy-to-cancel, tossaway book that stumbled through a trio of authors became inbued with a surprising amount of heart. Avengers Undercover Vol1 # Complete Set (Marvel) –

Runaways Vol. Avengers Undercover. Getting better acquainted with this quirky teen super-team. If you don't know the Runaways, know is the time to Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 educating yourself. Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 renegade teen heroes are making their live-action debut in Hulu's Runaways TV series next year. And before that, Marvel is gearing up for a new Runaways comic as part of the Marvel Legacy relaunch. Clearly, now is the time to get caught up on this cult-favorite franchise. That's where we come in. We've broken down the main Runaways saga chronologically, covering all the team's major appearances and other key stories they've appeared in over the years. We've tried to keep this article as spoiler-free as possible, as there's no substitute for experiencing the Runaways comics for yourself. The Original Series The original volume of Runaways spanned 18 issues and told a pretty complete story about the rise of new teen superhero team. These six Los Angeles-based youngsters discovered that their parents were all members of a secretive cabal of supervillains known as The Pride. Even as they come to terms with their own budding superhuman powers, these characters decide that the only way to escape their parents' influence is to go on the run and try to take down the Pride themselves. That innate distrust of authority even groups like The Avengers is one element that immediately set the Runaways apart from other Marvel teams. That, and the fact that Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 gained a pet dinosaur named Old Lace. These first 18 issues lay the groundwork for everything to come with the team, following their struggles to remain one step ahead of their parents and the group dynamic that forms over time. The series eventually culminates with a shocking betrayal and the final confrontation between the Runaways and the Pride. Essential Graphic Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 Runaways Vol. Vaughan and artist Adrian Alphona remained on board the series after that initial issue run, Marvel elected to relaunch the series to reflect the fresh jumping-on point after the end of the Pride conflict. With Runaways Vol. The series introduced two crucial new members to the team in the form of cyborg Victor Mancha and Skrull refugee Xavin. The Runaways also began to interact with the wider Marvel Universe in this second volume, battling the New Avengers and meeting Marvel's original teen Runaways, Claok and Dagger. Vaughan and Alphona wrapped up their run in issue 24, following a confrontation between the Runaways and a race of gods called the Gibborim, as well as the debut of a new incarnation of the Pride. However, the series would continue on for one more storyline, as Joss Whedon came on board to tie up loose ends and craft a a new time-travel storyline where the Runaways were dragged back to The end result was that they wound up recruiting another new member to their ranks, young Klara Plast. The publisher also put the spotlight on the Young Avengers, super-powered teens who modeled themselves after classic Avengers members. It was only natural that Marvel would choose to link the two teams together, especially since they had a demand to fill with all the shipping delays on the main Young Avengers series. The notoriously private Runaways were understandably hesitant about the idea of the Superhuman Registration Act. The Young Avengers helped their new friends evade S. It was a logical time for a crossover, as both teams counted a Skrull among their ranksand both had a vested interest in halting the Skrull Empire's invasion of Earth. Instead, Marvel chose to relaunch the series again with a fresh creative team in the form of writer Terry Moore and artist Humberto Ramos. The new series saw the team attempt to return to their old stomping grounds in LA, with Karolina being a major focus as she dealt with her alien heritage and the unexpected consequences that arose as a result. The tea also dealt with a zombie plague, which is pretty much a rite of passage for any superhero these days. Unfortunately, the new volume didn't seem to strike a chord with readers in the same way its predecessors did. Marvel brought in a new creative team on board in issue 11 - writer Kathryn Immonen and artist Sara Pichelli. The team dealt with Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 tragedies, as the unexpected death of a team member caused Klara's plant powers to rage out of control. Marvel wound up quietly and abruptly cancelling the series after issue 14, giving the new creative team a mere four issues to work with in the process and leaving readers with an agonizing cliffhanger that has yet to be addressed even Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1. Many readers were perplexed, especially given the warm critical reception to Immonen and Pichelli's issues. But sales just weren't what they had been on previous volumes, and Marvel seemed content to let the franchise go dormant for a while until the ideal story direction and creative team could be found. They briefly appeared in books like Daken: Dark Wolverine where they Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 Daken take down a Pride- connected criminal and Avengers Academy where they turned to Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 Avengers for help in finding a Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 Old Lace. Marvel also published a What If? Eventually, the Runaways disbanded and the various members took on new roles in the Marvel Universe. Victor became a member of Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 A. Nico and Chase, meanwhile, were among several dozen teen heroes kidnapped by Arcade and forced to fight each other to the death in Avengers Arena. The survivors of that series continued their journey in Avengers Undercover, as they dealt with the fallout of their Hunger Games-style tournament being broadcast around the world. That incarnation of Runaways was a tie-in mini-series for Secret War and took place on Battleworld, the planet Doctor Doom created from broken fragments of the Marvel multiverse. Despite the title, Runaways Vol. But like the Runaways of old, this team devoted itself to going underground and trying to bring down the villains secretly running their world. Secret Wars also introduced a new, all-female team of heroes called A-Force. Nico was a member of the team both in the Battleworld incarnation and the new group that formed in the aftermath of Secret Wars, making her another Runaway who's taken her place alongside the traditional heroes of the Marvel Universe. But with A-Force done and Avengers Undercover: Descent Volume 1 new Runaways comic finally on the horizon, it seems Nico would rather get the old gang back together. For more, read our Terms of Use.
