An RBI sac fly from C Andrew Knizner in the 1st provided the Cardinals with the early lead, but Tulsa moved in front with an RBI base hit from LF Luke Raley and a run-scoring passed ball in the 3rd. RHP Matt Pearce dug in from there and kept Tulsa from adding to their lead through the rest of his 6.0 innings, retiring his final 10 in a row. However, a pair of two-run shots from OF Jacob Scavuzzo in the 7th and SS Errol Robinson in the 9th padded the lead. Springfield did plate one with a solo home run from 3B Evan Mendoza in the 8th, but the Drillers hung on for the 6-2 final. 1st-Half Battle… With just 9 games remaining in the First Half, the Cardinals and NW Arkansas Naturals trail the Arkansas Travelers by just 1.0 game for 1st place in the North Division. The Drillers are in 4th but are in the hunt as well, only 3.0 games back. The First Half Champs in both divisions earn a guaranteed playoff berth. Evan almighty… Named the Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month for May, 3B Evan Mendoza continued a torrid stretch with a solo shot on Saturday, his second homer in his last three games. The 21 year old has hits in 11 of his last 12 games, batting .348 (16x46) with two home runs, a double, a triple and eight RBIs. After leading the STL system with a .339 average last year, he leads the system with a .333 clip this year between Palm Beach and Springfield, just ahead of his former NC State and current Springfield teammate, C Andrew Knizner (.327). Thomas on a tear… With an RBI double on Friday, OF Lane Thomas extended his hitting streak to eight games, hitting .382 (13x34) with four homers and 12 RBIs while collecting his first two career multi-home run performances on 6/2 and 6/5. The Knoxville, TN native has now hit in 12 of his last 13 games, batting .345 (19x55) with four homers, three doubles and 16 RBIs during that stretch. Steady Eddy… Despite his 10-game hitting streak ending on Saturday, INF Tommy Edman did work a pair of walks to extend his on-base streak to 16 games.
