Brief Biodata of Professor C.N.R. Rao C.N.R. Rao (born on 30 June 1934, Bangalore, India) received the M.Sc. degree from Banaras, Ph.D. from Purdue, D.Sc. from Mysore universities. He is Honorary President and Linus Pauling Research Professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research. He is also an Honorary Professor at the Indian Institute of Science. His main research interests are in solid state and materials chemistry. He is an author of over 1750 research papers and 53 books. He has received honoris causa doctorate degrees from 81universities including Purdue, Bordeaux,Banaras, Calcutta, Delhi, IITs (Bombay, Kharagpur, Kanpur, New Delhi, Guwahati), IISERs(Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune), Northwestern, Notre Dame, Novosibirsk, Oxford, Stellenbosch, Temple, Université Joseph Fourier,Grenoble, Uppsala, Wales, Wroclaw, Caen, Liverpool,St. Andrews, Canberra, Taiwanand Desikottama from Visva-Bharati. Prof. Rao is a member of several of the science academies in the world, including the Royal Society, London, the National Academy of Sciences, U.S.A., the Russian, French and Japan Academies as well as the American Philosophical Society. He is a Member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Foreign Fellow of Academia Europaea, the Royal Society of Canada and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. For many of us this means friends and family gatherings. On top of this it may also involve grant proposal writing. Then it is important to do other things as well, I strongly recommend some reading. One of my personal favourites is Hans Rosling. He was one of our most famous physicians and was internationally very well recognized. His biography "Hur jag lärde mig förstå världen" is a fascinating story about his life. A new book will appear very soon, "Factfulness" that most likely will be a global bestseller. Enjoy. In this context, green chemistry education (GCE) and sustainable chemistry education (SCE) have received increasing attention, especially in recent years. However, gaps remain in further understanding the historical roots of green chemistry (GC) and sustain- able chemistry (SC), their differences, similarities, as well the implications of this wider comprehension into curricula. Building on existing initiatives, further efforts are needed at all levels to mainstream GCE and SCE into chemistry and other education curricula and teaching, including gathering and disseminating best practices and forging new and strengthened partnerships at the national, regional and global levels. Prof. Maurizio Prato Professor of Organic Chemistry, Dipartimento di Scienze Chimiche e Farmaceutiche University of Trieste, Italy and Ikerbasque Professor, CIC BiomaGUNE, San Sebastián, Spain Maurizio Prato graduated in Padova, Italy, where he was appointed Assistant Professor in 1983. He moved to Trieste in 1992, to become Full Professor in 2000. Since the end of 2015, he has been appointed Research Professor at CIC BiomaGUNE in San Sebastián, Spain. His research focuses on the application of all aspects of organic chemistry, synthetic and mechanistic, to build functional materials finalized to solve relevant problems in biology, medicine, and solar energy conversion. He was the recipient of an ERC Advanced Research Grant, European Research Council, 2008 and has become a Member of the National Academy of Sciences (Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei) in 2010. Has published more than 500 papers on international peer reviewed Journals, with a total of around 40,000 citations and an h-index of 105 (google scholar) or 95 (web of science). Has been invited to more than 200 conferences and workshops in the last 10 years as a plenary or keynote speaker, and has given more than 50 invited talks in Universities or research centers all around the world. Minutes of the Nordic Presidents’ Meeting in Longyearbyen, May 15. and 16. 2015. The host for this year’s meeting was the Norwegian Chemical Society (NKS). The following were present at the meeting: Øyvind Mikkelsen (president NKS), Harald Walderhaug (gen. secr. NKS), Helena Grennberg (president Swedish Chemical Society, SK), Agneta Sjögren (gen. secr. SK), Stefan Vogel (president, Danish Chemical Society, DKF), Mariann Holmberg and Triin Gyllenberg (representatives of the Finnish Chemical Society) and Heleena Karrus (gen. secr. Finnish Chemical Society). The venue for the meeting was room Tempelet at Polarinstituttet, Longyearbyen, and lasted between 14.30 and 18.00 on the 15th , and between 10.30 and ca 12.30 on the 16th . From 14.00 to ca 16.00 on the 16th a presentation of ongoing research projects at Polarinstituttet was given by representatives of UNIS (University of Svalbard) (see below). 1. Wellcome by the representatives of the host. Thereafter, Tone Hertzberg from Sysselmannen’s (The Norwegian authorities’) staff oriented about Svalbard – its special political status, geography, climate, fauna, flora, history, etc. In the old days (19th and early 20th century) the hunters that lived here stayed in small cottages at trap stations and hunted seal, polar fox and polar bear. In modern times, coal mining has become a traditional activity, and still is. This activity is mainly located in and near Longyearbyen (Store Norske), and in Barentsburg (Russians and Ukrainians). Research stations are located in Ny Ålesund (many nations are represented), and in Longyearbyen UNIS and Polarinstituttet is located. Tourism is an increasing activity, and there are daily flights between mainland Norway and Longyearbyen, named after an American that started the coal mining activity in Svalbard (Spitsbergen) around the year of 1900.
