BY CATHY ASPLIN

Lynette Sellars recently found a wine she really enjoys — a Banrock Station white shiraz. She felt it was good value for money, had a lovely flavour and the labels on the bottle outlined the Australian company’s efforts with global conservation. One of the labels on the bottle neck backed this up with the slogan ‘Help us help the Earth’. When she had finished drinking the wine she put the empty bottle into a recycling bin at her gate. But, to her surprise when she picked up the bin after the collection had been done, the Banrock Station bottle was still there - with a yellow sticker attached. ‘‘The sticker had a note saying that blue bottles couldn’t be recycled as they were a health hazard. ‘‘While I agree the bottle has a blue tinge, it’s essentially clear glass. It’s cer- tainly not like the dark blue wine bottles you used to get many years ago.’’ So she emailed the distributors of Banrock Station — Constellation New Zealand (formerly Nobilo Wine Company) — with her concerns that the bottles should be recyclable to fit with their environmental image. Fleet-footed Te Awamutu Sports first five- eighth Waylon Tangohau is set to become a ‘double international’ in Sydney this week. Tangohau was one of eight Waikato players to make the New Zealand Under-85kg Barbarians rugby team to play two games in Australia. The Barbarians were to play New South Wales last night and an Aboriginal team tomorrow night. The Te Awamutu Sports pivot, with over 100 premier games for the club, played his way into the Barbarians side with a strong performance for Waikato Harlequins at the Under 85kg Invitational Tournament in Auckland. The Harlequins made it to the final after good victories against Auckland 36-10 and Thailand 22-15. Unfortunately the team couldn’t emulate their wonderful performance against Auckland mid week, losing to them 12-9 in the final. 6767321AA It was the first time Waikato Harlequins have competed in any official capacity in a competitive tournament. Tangohau was due to make his debut rugby appearance for a national team against New South SPCASPCA AnimalAnimal ShelterShelter Wales last night, having previously represented New Zealand in the Trans Tasman Schoolboys Touch Tournament in Australia in 1996. He is hoping to get an early flight home from CFP Australia in order to be available to play for Te WAYLON TANGOHAU leaves would-be Hamilton Awamutu Sports premier team against Taupiri on Old Boys tacklers in his wake in last season’s Puppies Saturday. Cinema Scene Dean Spanley

Fisk Junior (Jeremy Northam) lives beholden to a difficult Fisk Senior (Peter O’Toole). One day trying to entertain his father, Fisk Junior brings him to a lecture by a visiting swami, about the trans- migration of souls, where they meet the new local clergyman, Dean Spanley (Sam Neill). He is intrigued by the Dean’s oddly open-mouthed views of reincarnation and get- ting beyond the appearance of an affable, rather bland clergy- man, by his weakness for cer- tain peculiar sensations pro- duced by Hungarian Imperial Tokay wine, which leads him into a dreamlike state. Working with his clever friend Wrather, the Young Fisk secures a large batch of fine Tokay, and the two entertain the Dean, who acts ever more strangely, starting to reveal memories of his previous life - as a dog. 871-5151 Our ads will make you SMILE!
