VACATIOFF – VACATION Counting down to summer: the 2014-15 school year ended on 12 June

“What’s the best thing about school? Summer break!” said our school’s head principle jokingly as he officially closed the school year. The end of year project presentations and slide- shows, however, showed that our students had a lot of fun, experience and success during the year as well. Four of these, the Javne Theatre, KarMUN, Lauder Eye magazine and the middle school Tower of Babel project all held a short presentation at the ceremony. Our high school students boast many sports suc- cesses, as well as two national academic compe- tition (OKTV) first prizes, as well as several fine and applied arts prizes this year. Our champion elementary classes were awarded the Hóbagoly (Snowy Owl) cup, and finally, we saw our year played back in pictures. Gábor Horányi and one of our little girls closed the year together, which was followed by shouts of joy from the crowd.

May-June 2015 Lauder Javne School EDUCATION

ERASMUS+ 2015

With an Erasmus+ project, two teams of Lauder fac- ulty were able to visit two European big cities to learn from hands on experience in local schools. At Lauder, we place special emphasis on education development, which requires us to constantly seek out international best practices as well as leadership train- ing. Our school won an Erasmus+ educational mobility grant, which allowed us to arrange the trip of our two teams. Our heads of department got to know the inner work- ings of two very different Jewish schools in London, JFS and JCoSS. Besides the general structure and educational program of the schools, our colleagues were paired with their equivalent position partners and experienced a day in their life. The professional development of our English Plus program was supported by learning about similar programs with dif- ferent practices in German educational institutions. The E+ teachers’ mobility project entailed a visit to two Berlin based schools, the JFK School and the Heinz-Galinski Schule, where they got to know their pedagogical programs and ap- proaches, as well as visit live classes. They also had a chance to experience applied methodologies and technologies used, as well as consult with the teachers holding the lessons.

The 7 June Sunday event was held on the same day as the Judaf- est festival. Those who took part in the Fun Run also completed a mitzvah. Their participation supported the Lauder School, more precisely the Kibuci Buci camp. Thanks to their generous support, students with financial difficulties were also able to attend the camp. Despite the searing heat, a lot of people took part in the charity running race.

May-June 2015 Lauder Javne School PUBLIC RELATION GARDEN PARTY 36 degrees in the shade, and fun in every corner

Our now traditional end of year garden party again turned out to be just that: a great party. Everyone put their best foot forward, the classes set up wonderful buffet tables, from corn on the cob to fruits and muffins and fresh lemonade. After an opening speech by head principal Gábor Horányi, the stage was filled with continuous musical performances and prize draws to keep the mood going. Simon Leskó, the Naim band, the Jack, the Cable band, Z’mirim and Klezmer Cheverin, and even Irish dancers as well as singers all entertained the audience. To help people cool down in the summer heat, we installed two mist poles. Seeing how much fun they were, we even gave thought to keeping them.
