About Hastings College 6 Section 5 Academic Calendar Starting in Fall 2019, Hastings College will transition to a modified block schedule. Fall Semester Block 1 - 2 weeks Block 2 - 7 weeks Block 3 - 7 weeks Spring Semester Block 4 - 7 weeks Block 5 - 2 weeks Block 6 - 7 weeks In a 2-week block, students will take one course (usually 2 credits). In a 7-week block, students will take one or two courses (4-8 credits total). In a semester, full-time students will take 12-18 credits. About Hastings College 7 Section 6 Academic Program Options Hastings College students have three options for completing their course of SUMMER SESSION study: the Hastings College Academic Program, the Personalized Program, and the Honors Program. To make up for lost time, or reduce their course loads during the long semesters, students may wish to take advantage of the small classes and the more relaxed atmosphere of the summer session, which takes place during June and July. ACADEMIC PROGRAM OF STUDY Independent study projects are also available. Given the likelihood of doctoral degree recipients being active in research or lead- ership positions, they may have considerable opportunity to influence public policy. In a global, knowledge-driven economy, the need for a highly educated workforce is vital to maintaining the nation’s status and economy. Doctoral-granting institutions, therefore, play an important role in educating academicians and professionals alike who can take the lead in this highly interdependent world. Unfortunately, the nation’s graduate schools fail to fully educate many students who enter doctoral programs because the programs are plagued by high attrition rates.
