Academically, the ACC’s unique blend of public and private institutions continue to lead the way among Autonomy 5 conferences. This was once again demonstrated in the annual “Best Colleges” rankings released by US News & World Report, as the ACC was the only Autonomy 5 conference to place seven of its member institutions among the top 35 and eight member schools among the top 50. With an average rank of 54.2, the ACC led all FBS conferences for the 11th consecutive year. ACC institutions saw 96 combined teams receive Academic Progress Rate recognition awards from the NCAA in May, once again the most of any peer conference. In the NCAA’s Graduation Success Rate report released last November, the ACC’s graduation rate of 91 percent was four points above the national average. Additionally, the league tied for the highest GSR among peer conferences in the sport of football, and a combined six ACC men’s and women’s basketball teams achieved perfect scores.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Men’s and Women’s Basketball Finalists Announced for the 2019-20 Senior CLASS Award OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (February 5, 2020) – Twenty-one NCAA® men’s and women’s basketball student-athletes who excel both on and off the court were selected as finalists today for the 2019-20 Senior CLASS Award®. To be eligible for the award, student- athletes must be classified as NCAA Division I seniors and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of finalists follows this release. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their athletic platforms to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 30 men’s candidates and 30 women’s candidates announced earlier in the season. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to submit votes online at the Senior CLASS Award website through March 23. Fan votes will be combined with those of the media and Division I head coaches to determine the winners. The Senior CLASS Award recipients will be announced during the 2020 NCAA Men’s Final Four® and NCAA Women’s Final Four®.     Alisha Valavanis President & General Manager Seattle Storm Professional Biography Alisha Valavanis is currently the President & General Manager of the Seattle Storm. In this role, Valavanis oversees all business and basketball operations. She was hired as Chief Operating Officer of the Storm on June 18, 2014, elevated to President on Oct. 1, 2014 and promoted to President & General Manager on Jan. 5, 2015. In Valavanis’ first WNBA Draft as General Manager, the Storm used its No. 1 overall pick to select guard Jewell Loyd, who went on to win Rookie of the Year. Seattle selected forward Breanna Stewart the next year, adding the only player to ever win three consecutive AP Player of the Year awards in college. Ahead of the 2016 season, the Storm entered into new partnerships with health provider Swedish Medical Center, television station Q13 FOX and automobile dealership Carter Subaru. A native of Valparaiso, Ind., Valavanis came to the Storm with a strong involvement in women’s basketball, both as a former player and coach, uniquely blending with her experience in athletics business operations. Valavanis joined the Storm in 2014 from the University of California, Berkeley, where she was an Assistant Athletics Director of Development. With Cal, she oversaw annual giving, alumni relations and development operations. Valavanis was responsible for annual fundraising efforts, oversaw the ticket-based donation program, established new courtside scholarship programs for both men’s and women’s basketball and drove comprehensive alumni engagement strategies. Valavanis’ coaching career began in 2002 at California State University, Chico. In her four years as an assistant coach, the program made four straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
