Fifth Grade Researching “Americans we Admire” Fifth grade students have begun their research and study of Americans who have had significant impact on the United States politically, socially, medically, educationally, and have earned the respect and admiration of people worldwide. The students’ findings will be delivered via a “play on animatronics* in the parish hall on February 11, from 1 to 2:30 pm. Clas- ses, parents, and guests are invited to attend the gathering of these nota- ble persons where they may see George Washington standing next to Franklin Roosevelt, who has been chatting with Amelia Earhart, who has just reported her claim to fame to some paying guests. For a fee, the “Americans” will tell a bit about their lives and accomplishments. It’s like feeding a few dollars into the video machine and getting an informative movie in return. Only these are live presentations!

Money raised is donated to Birthright; and should you choose to attend, you will be treated to an educational experience far better than what you can imagine.

*the technology connected with the use of electronics to animate pup- pets or other figures, as for motion pictures.

(While our students are obviously not animatrons, they do not “activate” without a monetary donation!)

Fifth grade students delve through their history books and study guides and discuss in small groups the contributions of notable Americans.

Seventh Grade Computer Class Enhances Creativity of Tech-Savvy Students

Those teaching computer classes these days are often greeted with students who are already extremely knowledgeable at using the computer, notebooks, ipads, etc. But St. Anne com- puter teacher Raquel Haddad is young and knowledgeable herself and offers a variety of assignments that this age group enjoys. A classroom visit this week found some students perfecting their keyboard skills, some researching topics of interest, and still others prepar- ing a Power Point presentation about their favorite childhood television show.

Dropping in the next day, the favorite tv shows were being presented, shows such as Teen- age Mutant Ninja Turtles, Kim Possible, and Phineas and Ferb. What? No I Love Lucy, Captain Kangaroo, (I date myself), Gunsmoke, or The Muppets? New generation, new styles of entertainment! While enjoyed watching movies and television, this generation has the capabilities of making their own movies!

Preparing for Catholic Schools Week and Grandparents’ Day

Just as we would clean and spruce up our home were we hosting a party or get-together, teachers and staff are all getting ready for next week’s Open House and classroom visits. Revamping bulletin boards, cleaning floors, but most importantly preparing assignments that grandparents will thoroughly enjoy are just a few of the activities tak- ing place.

Ms. Kelli Jones’ language arts classes have been studying ancestry and lineage, and they are writing an acrostic poem and an inherited- traits essay, both of which will be on display for visitors to read and enjoy.

Students Vote on Bluebonnet Books St. Anne students in grades 3-6 were visiting the school library on Thursday to cast their ballots for their favorite Bluebonnet-nominated book. Eligible voters are readers in grades 3-6 who have read (or heard read aloud) at least 5 of the master list titles and are enrolled in a TBA-registered institution such as St. Anne School. Votes may be cast anytime in the month of January, but all votes must be submitted by midnight on January 31 (CST).

St. Anne students who participated in the program to help select the Bluebonnet book of the year, were treated to ice cream and a variety of toppings. The top vote- getter at our school was Mountain Dog by Margarita Engle, and it will be interest- ing to see if other Texas students find the book appealing as well. The winning book will be announced sometime during the first week in February.
