Además de las áreas tradicionalmente representadas en nuestro Departamento, se ha incor- porado recientemente el Noroeste, aquí representado por el trabajo de Félix Acuto y colaboradores. Esperamos que este libro sirva para difundir las principales líneas de investigación. Como podrán ver, los proyectos presentan distinto grado de desarrollo. Para mayores detalles acerca de los mismos, podrán acercarse a otras publicaciones científicas citadas en los capítulos o a los autores. Todos los trabajos presentados aquí han sido sometidos a evaluación. ACUTO, ClaUDIA AMUEDO, MARISA KERGARavaT, ALEJanDRO FERRARI, LUCIla GAMARRA Y Ana LAURA GOLDÍN Introducción En sintonía con los acercamientos contemporáneos en teoría social, a partir de la década de 1980 algunas corrientes en arqueología, genéricamente denomi- nados arqueología postprocesual o interpretativa, comenzaron a interesarse por los procesos sociales del pasado. Se produjo entonces una transformación radi- cal en el enfoque y las escalas de análisis empleadas para abordar el estudio de sociedades pretéritas. Se pasó desde una arqueología interesada en los procesos evolutivos de larga duración, con una visión organicista y sistémica de la socie- dad (la cual fue considerada como un todo funcional tendiente al equilibrio), con mayor interés en los aspectos estructurales u objetivos de las sociedades, que consideraba que la constitución de las sociedades humanas y el cambio eran más producto de factores externos (especialmente las fluctuaciones medioam- bientales) que de procesos internos y con el acento puesto en los procesos de apropiación o producción de recursos, a una arqueología interesada en la escala histórica, en las relaciones y prácticas sociales, en los procesos de constitución de significados y en las contradicciones y tensiones inherentes al proceso social. En otras palabras, se cambio así el foco desde lo estructural, lo general y los procesos evolutivos a la interrelación entre los sujetos y las estructuras sociales, las relaciones intersubjetivas y las prácticas, la historia y lo contingente El interés por las prácticas, relaciones sociales y significados ha llevado a la arqueología a reflexionar sobre la relación entre las personas y los artefactos que producen, emplean y consumen, y los paisajes que habitan (Bender 1993; Thomas 1996, 2000, 2001; Ashmore y Knapp 1999; Criado 1999; Gosden y Marshall 1999; ucko y Layton 1999; Dobres 2000; Troncoso 2001; Meskell 2005; Piazzini 2006; Tilley et al. 2006). Estas discusiones, que comenzaron abordando los aspectos semióticos de la cultura material y la espacialidad (Leone y Potter 1988; Hodder 1989,1994; Tilley 1990), así como los políticos 1 CONICET (IMHICIHu – DIPA) 12 F. GoldíN e ideológicos (Miller y Tilley 1984; Miller et al. 1989; McGuire y Paynter 1991; McGuire 1992), tendieron luego a explorar los aspectos experienciales de la relación entre las personas, sus cuerpos, y la materialidad y espaciali- dad en la que están insertas (Ingold 1993; Tilley 1993, 1994; Thomas 1996; Alberti 1999; MacGregor 1999; Hamilakis et al. 2002; Acuto 2004; Potter 2004; Joyce 2005). De esta manera, comenzaron a desarrollarse dentro de la disciplina ricas discusiones sobre el rol que objetos y espacios sociales tienen en el proceso social. El proyecto arqueológico que llevamos adelante se enmarca en este tipo de arqueología. Nos interesamos por la esfera de las acciones y relaciones sociales que es donde tiene lugar la vida social, se producen y reproducen las estructuras sociales y se desarrolla la historia. Especialmente en sociedades sin medios masivos de difusión o almacenaje de ideas, normas, narrativas o memorias, la socialización y la producción, reproducción y transformación del orden social tiene lugar en las prácticas e interacciones de las personas, en la oralidad y corporeidad. Allí, más que en representaciones abstractas, es donde encontramos la estructura social. El orden social se encuentra en la naturaleza de las relaciones entre las personas, en los tipos de acciones que la gente desarrolla, en los paisajes que construyen y habitan, en el interior de las casas, en los símbolos que producen, en los monumentos que construyen, en los artefactos que emplean y en los cuerpos de las personas. Es importante destacar que estas prácticas e interacciones tienen lugar dentro de, y son constituidas por, un orden material y espacial específico, estableciéndose así una relación dialéctica entre vida social y la materialidad y espacialidad. Esta relación dialéctica implica que: 1) La materialidad y espacialidad no son simplemente el reflejo de un tipo de organización social, sino que activa y recursivamente dan forma a los procesos sociales. 2) Los objetos y las formas espaciales (paisajes, lugares y ambientes construidos) son aspectos constitutivos e inherentes de las relaciones y prácticas sociales. En otras palabras, no hay acciones o interacciones que se den por fuera de una materialidad y de un espacio social e históricamente constituidos, o sin emplear artefactos de algún tipo; como tampoco hay formación social o campo social que no esté entrelazado con un orden material y espacial determinado. Dentro de esta relación dialéctica, la ausencia o transformación de uno de los componentes de esta relación alteraría necesariamente el otro. Consideramos que en sociedades orales, como las que nos encontramos investigando, los sujetos aprehenden (en el doble sentido de conocer e incor- porar) el orden social a partir de la experiencia directa en la materialidad y Experiencias Subjetivas en las aldeas prehispánicas del Valle Calchaquí Norte 13 espacialidad del mundo. Embeberse en el mundo, habitar en él (que implica una forma históricamente constituida de presencia sensorial e involucramien- to/conexión con el mundo), permite a las personas constituirse como sujetos y aprehender el modo en que el mundo está clasificado, las representaciones y significados, la naturaleza de las relaciones sociales, las instituciones y la historia (Ingold 1993,2000; Bourdieu 1999). Es en la escala de la acción e inte- racción sujetiva, y la de la relación entre sujetos y materialidad y espacialidad, donde tiene lugar la vida social. El objetivo central de nuestro proyecto es investigar las percepciones y experiencias sensoriales y corporales que los pobladores prehispánicos del valle Calchaquí Norte adquirían al habitar un asentamiento conglomerado del Periodo Tardío (1000-1470 DC). utilizando como puerta de entrada el estu- dio de las percepciones y experiencias vividas por las personas, experiencia configurada por una espacialidad y materialidad histórica y culturalmente específica, se intenta entender cuatro aspectos claves de la vida social de es- tas comunidades: 1) La dinámica de la vida cotidiana en estos lugares; 2) Las prácticas sociales desarrolladas, su temporalidad y distribución espacial; 3) El tipo y carácter de las relaciones sociales establecidas al interior de las unidades domésticas, entre unidades domésticas, entre vivos y muertos; 4) El sentido de lugar de estas espacialidades, es decir los significados y emociones que estos asentamientos conglomerados transmitían. En las páginas siguientes presentamos nuestro proyecto. En primer lugar, abordamos los aspectos epistemológicos y metodológicos de nuestra propuesta. Reflexionamos y discutimos, en este caso, cuál es la manera de aproximarnos a las experiencias y percepciones de la gente en el pasado. Segundo, expone- mos y explicamos las actividades hasta el momento realizadas y la manera en que éstas intentan alcanzar los objetivos planteados por nuestro proyecto. A continuación, presentamos los resultados preliminares obtenidos, para luego desarrollar las primeras interpretaciones
