SUNDAY BULLETIN AND WEEKLY NEWS

Feast Day of SS. Cosmas and Damian Fifth Sunday of Luke Sunday, November 1, 2015

Sunday, November 1, 2015 St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 12:27-31 13: 1-8 Orthros (Matins) 8:45 AM (of St. ) 10:00 AM

On Sunday, Nov.1, we commemorate the holy miracle workers and unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian, the holy woman martyrs Kyri- ana and Juliana, the holy martyrs Caesarius, Dasius, five others, the holy hieromartyrs John the bishop, and James the presbyter, the holy new hieromartyr Iakovos and his disciples, Iakovas, the , and Diony- sios the monk who died by hanging in the year 1520.

Resurrectional In Mode pl.1

Let us worship the Word who unoriginate with the Father and the Spirit, and from a Virgin was born for our salvation, O believers, and let us sing His praise. For in His goodness He was pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh, and to undergo death, and to raise up those who had died, by His glorious Resur- rection.

Apolytikion for The Saints Mode pl.4 Holy Unmercenaries and Wonderworkers, visit our infirmities. Freely you received, freely give to us.

Apolytikion of St. Theodore the Commander in 2nd Tone When in God's army you had truly enlisted, O holy Theodore, the bearer of trophies, you were made a splendid general of the heavenly King; using as a weapon faith, you were ready for battle and utterly destroyed the ranks that were amassed by the demons, and as a victorious athlete you were seen, wherefore in true faith, we bless you and honor you.

Apolytikion of the Annunciation in 4th Tone Today is the beginning of our salvation, The revelation of the eternal mystery! The Son of God becomes the Son of the Virgin. As Gabriel announces the coming of Grace. Together with him let us cry to the : Rejoice, O Full of Grace, The Lord is with You!

Seasonal O Protection of Christians unshamable, mediation with the Creator im- movable, we sinners beg you, do not despise the voices of our prayers, but anticipate, since you are good, and swiftly come unto our aid as we cry out to you with faith: Hurry to intercession, and hasten to supplication, O The- otokos who defend now and ever those who honor you The Epistle Reading St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 12:27-31 13: 1-8 Prokeimenon. Mode 4. Psalm 15. 3,8

Among the saints who are in his land, the Lord has been wondrous. Verse: I see the Lord before me continually.

Brethren, you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. And God has appointed in the first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, then healers, helpers, administrators, speakers in various kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work mira- cles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irri- table or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends

The Gospel Reading: Luke 16:19-31 The Lord said, "There was a rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazaros, full of sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table; moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was bur- ied; and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes, and saw Abraham far off and Lazaros in his bosom. And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazaros to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.' But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazaros in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.' And he said, 'Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house, for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.' But Abraham said, 'They have Moses, and the prophets; let them hear them.' And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if some one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' He said to them, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if some one should rise from the dead.'"
