For many students the mere thought of Math is enough to send them into a state of panic. With so much apprehension, students always try to find the best math teacher that they can. They rely on the ratings of Rate My Professor knowing that in the end it’s a gamble. Well, here is the cure to the math anxieties and her name is Professor Sheryl Zavertnik. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame she went on to work for General Motors while at the same time starting a family. It’s not just another Club Rush. This is education and entertainment combined. Sept. 18 marked the first official Club Rush of the fall term for Broward College’s (BC) North Campus. Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from the September 15 till the October 15, each organization chose a different country in hopes of promoting themselves and shedding more light on each distinct culture. Also included was a one-way buffet-line where students, upon entering the salon, could sign-in with their Student ID number and receive a ticket which was then used to partake in the singular opportunity of having lunch around the Americas, without any plane sickness involved. North Campus held a concert which featured the band Xperimento, which played on Sept. 26. This Miami based, bilingual, multicultural group had students dancing to their different mix of Latin rhythms. The band has created a genre called “Latin Reggae Urban Soul” which consists of genres such as Reggae, Ska, Cumbia, Merengue, Salsa and Funk with elements of Rock, R&B, Hip Hop and Dancehall. Their rousing and lively performance caught the attention of many and had the crowd going. Florida Blue donated over $19,000 in scholarship funds for students enrolled in the health sciences. “We are proud to be selected as one of the recipients of this meaningful scholarship,” said Nancy Botero, Executive Director for the Broward College Foundation and Vice President for Advancement. The scholarships will help to reduce the amount of loans students have to take out in order to pay for their classes. The funds will be dispersed throughout the 2013- 2014 school year and all funds will be dispersed before June of 2014.
