It was the world’s tallest building for 17 years. More than 95 years after its construction, it is still one of the fifty tallest buildings in the United States as well as one of the twenty tallest buildings in New York City. The building is a National Historic Landmark, having been listed in 1966. The Empire State Building is a 102-story landmark Art Deco skyscraper in New York City at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street. Like many New York building, it has become seen as a work of art. Its name is derived from the nickname for New York, The Empire State. Begun 1851, completed 1854; architect Sa~uel A. Warner. Landmark2Site: Borough of Manhattan, Tax Map Block 831, Lot 33. On April 12, 1966, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing on the proposed designation as a Landmark of the Marble Collegiate Reformed Church and the proposed designation of the related Landmark Site. (Item No. 16). The hearing had been duly advertised in accordance with the provisions of law. Two witnesses spoke in favor of designation. There were no speakers in opposition to designation. This hearing was continued to subsequent hearings of the Commission. The public hearing on the church was closed on November 10, 1966. (Item No. 1). The governing body of the church has informed the Commission that it approves of the proposed designation. DESCRIPTION 1~ ANALYSIS As its name implies, the material used on the exterior of this Church is marble, This striking edifice, with a tower and spire which r esembles that of a New England wooden church, commands a corner site, where it can be advantageously seen from all directions. Though the architect considered it Romanesque in style, he nonetheless used Gothic forms in the dtails of the building;;. This church is an architectural creation of outstanding quality and unique in character. Symmetrical in plan, the central tower is flanked at its base by tall double windows, with octagonal turrets at t he angles, terminating in spires with carved finials. The handsome doorway, in the center of the tower, is set in a richly carved recessed arch carried on colonnettes with ornamented capitals. -

Vornado Completes Acquisition and Financing of Manhattan Mall Company Release - 1/10/2007 PARAMUS, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Vornado Realty Trust (NYSE:VNO) announced today that it has completed its previously announced $689 million acquisition of the Manhattan Mall, a mixed use property located on the entire Sixth Avenue blockfront between 32nd and 33rd Streets in Manhattan. The property contains approximately 1.0 million square feet, including 812,000 square feet of oce space and 164,000 square feet of retail space. Included as part of the transaction are 250,000 square feet of additional air rights. The property is adjacent to the 1.4 million square foot Hotel Pennsylvania owned by Vornado. At closing, the Company completed a $232 million nancing of the property. The loan bears interest at LIBOR plus 0.55% and matures in February 2009 with three one-year extension options. Chapter 17: Socioeconomics 17.1 INTRODUCTION This chapter presents the analysis the FRA conducted to evaluate the potential effects of the No Action Alternative and Preferred Alternative on the social and economic conditions in the Study Area. The chapter also presents FRA’s evaluation of potential effects of the No Action Alternative and the Preferred Alternative on the elderly and persons with disabilities, as well as potential effects on community facilities and services. 17.2 REGULATORY CONTEXT FRA followed the 23 CFR Part 771 and relevant CEQ guidelines, CEQR Technical Manual methodology guidance, as well as the guidelines and standards from the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to prepare the analyses of the social and economic conditions. For additional details on the regulatory context, please refer to Chapter 14 of Appendix B, “Methodology Report.” 17.3 ANALYSIS METHODOLOGY This section describes the Study Area and data sources FRA used, as well as the analysis techniques utilized for each category of assessment presented in this chapter. 17.3.1 STUDY AREA The Study Area is inclusive of the Project Site, immediate routes for travel of construction workers, goods and services, and retail and commercial businesses readily accessible to both to construction and operation personnel. High 5 By MAX GROSS Last Updated: 2:00 AM, January 17, 2013 Posted: 10:31 PM, January 16, 2013 It sounds like a crazy idea: Take an abandoned elevated train track on the far west side of Manhattan and wait around for it to turn into what is arguably the hottest area in the city. Crazy or not, that’s pretty much what happened with the High Line. “It’s right on the cusp of several neighborhoods,” says Chris Sieger, who has rented a one-bedroom with a 300-square-foot private terrace at the Caledonia, a building connected to the High Line, for more than four years. “It’s close to the West Village, there’s a lot of development along the West Side Highway, there’s access to a lot of cultural activity. I think it’s become a kind of epicenter.” And here are five reasons why the High Line will only be getting hotter in the coming months. 1) The sales market is more juiced than Lance Armstrong. In December, a 1,078-square-foot two-bedroom at the Caledonia sold for $2.615 million. The same unit had traded in 2009 for $1.827 million. That’s a jump of $788,000 in less than three years. Two blocks away, at 456 W. 19th St., “We had our first resale,” says the building’s architect and developer, Cary Tamarkin. “The woman has made $1 million on her purchase.” (In fact, the seller probably made more. The sale is still in contract; according to Streeteasy.com, the seller had originally purchased the apartment for $2.749 million and had it listed for $4.25 million.)
