The two missions of the InRC are reha- bilitation and release. The center receives injured animals from various sources, assesses the damage and does triage. Sometimes, an injury requires vet care, but InRC does injury management, monitor- ing, bandaging, medications, feeding and physical therapy on site. Most injuries that occur to the birds are due to some sort of interaction with people, whether it’s a car accident, an encounter with barbed wire, being shot or an electric shock from a power line. InRC also informs various communities and programs about the work that it does. “We do somewhere between 100 to 120 off-site programs and on-site tours a year,” Reynolds said. The Raptor Center will take feathered friends to schools, Scout groups, camps, libraries and more and talk about the importance of their roles in nature. Brown County Almanack Visitors Guide | SPRING 2020 25 If you visit Bear Hardware anytime soon, you’re sure to receive a warm greeting from its new employee, Linda, if she’s not too busy chasing mice. Melissa Olmsted contacted the Brown County Humane Society The purr-fect when holes started appearing in Bear »Hardware’s animal feed bags. Visitors to downtown Nashville will notice some changes this season, but not nearly as many as some had feared. The estate of Andy Rogers was auctioned last fall, including the homes of about 25 shops frequented by tourists for decades. Rogers, con- sidered by many to be the father of Nashville’s business community, died in July 2018. His real estate holdings amounted to about a third of down- town. Many shop tenants were nervous about their futures. Individual shops were not being sold; most of the buildings were listed in larger groups, limiting the pool of potential buyers. In the end, tenants and visitors had little to fear. In late October, nearly all of the commercial buildings and

properties were bought by local peo- BC-35033091BC-35033091 ple, several of whom said they plan to make few changes. The Antique Alley artisan complex and the nearby Olde Ferguson House were purchased by Rogers’ youngest daughter and her husband, Lance and Andi Rogers Bartels. Andi said Vshe planned to make few changes to Antique Alley, just doing some sprucing up. Andi also inherited the Nashville House through her father’s estate.
