Other personnel named Tuesday included assis- tant principalship for Hiddenite and Bethlehem elementary schools, for which Lisa Harrington was tapped. An Alexander County teacher, principal, and administrator in the past, Dr. Hefner is the school system’s first female superintendent. Salary information was not available by Wednesday morning. “I am so excited at the possibilities ahead of us as a school system. I have always said it is the people in our school system that make us special. The commitment, passion, and willingness to work hard allow us to make a difference for children and their families in Alexander County,” stated Dr. Hefner. She continued to say, “I would like to thank the Board of Education for this opportuni- ty and their confidence in me. I look forward to working with the school board members, staff, students, and community as we get a new school year underway.” In a telephone notification to school system employees, Board Chairman Brigette Rhyne said, “I am pleased to announce Dr. Jennifer Hefner as the Superintendent of Alexander County Schools effective August 1, 2014.
