As you consider any additional COVID-19 economic relief packages, we, the undersigned elected leaders of Washington State, write to respectfully request significant investments in and attention to the challenges facing child care. Here in Washington State and across the country, the child care industry is providing critical services enabling medical professionals, first responders, and other essential workers to provide for communities in our time of greatest need. And yet, the infrastructure of this critical system is crumbling in front of us and threatening our ability to recover from COVID-19 now and in the future. According to Child Care Aware of Washington, our state has already lost 143 child care centers, 105 family child care homes, and 19 school-age-only child care programs to COVID-19 related closures -- totaling a loss of 12,000 child care slots. -

City of Seattle 2013 State Legislative Bulletin April 8, 2013 Number 12 Week Overview This week was busy and informative in Olympia! On Wednesday, April 3rd, the Senate Transportation Committee chairs introduced what they called a “bare-bones” budget that largely continued current transportation funding, and the House Transportation Committee released a similar budget on Thursday. Both budgets were heard on Thursday afternoon. On Wednesday, the Senate Ways and Means leadership introduced and heard their operating budget proposal on Wednesday. The proposal was voted out of committee Thursday evening, and it passed off of the Senate floor 30 to 18 on Friday evening. Additionally, on Wednesday, Council President Clark and Councilmember O’Brien joined advocates and local elected officials from across the state to meet with legislators to support state funding and local options tools for transit and transportation needs. Areas of Primary Focus Protecting the most vulnerable families and individuals Senate Budget Proposal SB 5034: Making 2013-14 Sponsor: Senator Andy Hill Co-Sponsors: Hargrove Summary: This is the Senate budget proposal. Among its provisions, the bill makes a 50% cut to the liquor taxes distributed to local governments, makes cuts to housing and homelessness programs and TANF, and redirects significant funding from the Public Works Trust fund. Status: SB 5034 was introduced and heard in the Senate Ways and Means committee on April 3rd, voted out of committee and passed on the Senate floor in a 30-18 vote on April 5th. Affordable Housing HB 1563: Concerning the disposition of surplus property for the development of affordable housing. -

Board of Trustees – Regular Board Meeting February 20, 2019 Board Room (I-202) and Culinaire Room (I-108) 1:30 P.M. BOARD STUDY SESSION: 1. FINANCIAL STATUS Vice President Rodriguez presented our current budget status during the Board study session. Here is a summary of main points: Operating Revenue Budget RTC’s approved revenue budget for the 2018-19 year is $30,648,408. A mid-year revenue forecast reduces the total revenue by $686,257. The reduction is mostly a result of lower enrollments and tuition revenue for the year ($1,073,305) because we did not meet FY18 targets and further weakening enrollment this year. Some of the reduction was offset by higher fees and Running Start revenues, though the latter increases are much smaller than neighbor comprehensive colleges are experiencing. The adjusted revenue forecast is $29,962,151. Operating Expenditure Budget RTC’s approved expenditure budget for the 2018-19 year is $30,612,041. A mid-year expenditure budget forecast increased it by a total of $582,417. The increase is due to increases in salaries and benefits due to COLAs, compensation in the new faculty contract, sick leave buyouts, and unbudgeted items. Total increases were offset with decreases in apprenticeship and current efforts to reduced goods and services budgets. The adjusted expenditure forecast is $31,194,459. It is significant that the legislative policy to fund only 65 percent of COLAs since 2015 and leaving the remaining 35 percent to the College’s local funds has a $1,000,000 impact on our current payroll. -

This Fact Book also depicts the political finance activity of the ninth regular legislative election held following the implementation of Initiative 134. Material in this book is based on campaign finance reports filed by candidates and political committees disclosing activity through January 12, 2009. For the most part, these reports have not been audited by PDC staff. Every effort has been made to assure that the data as well as the summary charts and graphs accurately reflect the filed information. The total expenditures by legislative candidates, who reported spending money, are summarized as follows: In 1994, 316 candidates spent $10,516,508 In 1996, 313 candidates spent $13,064,270 In 1998, 267 candidates spent $12,994,043 In 2000, 303 candidates spent $16,257,511 In 2002, 258 candidates spent $15,847,338 In 2004, 257 candidates spent $18,904,376 In 2006, 216 candidates spent $18,850,341 In 2008, 244 candidates spent $21,306,132 From 2004 to 2008 the average expenditure by major party general election legislative candidates with opposition increased approximately 4% from $97,124 to $100,915*. -
