An International webinar on “Climate Change: Lessons and Actions” on 10th July 2021 was organised by the Department of Zoology, Morigaon College, in collaboration with the Department of Zoology, and Zoological Society of Assam.

Dr. Lila Kanta Barthakur, Principal, Morigaon College inaugurated the webinar and delivered the welcome address. Dr. Barthakur highlighted the of Morigaon College and its contribution to the field of higher .

Dr. Bidyut Bikash Goswami, a young Scientist and Research Professor working on “Irreversible Climate Change Research Centre”, Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea graced the webinar as the speaker. Dr. Goswami, born in Tezpur, Assam is a researcher in the field of Atmospheric Space Science as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Postdoctoral Associate in different parts of the world like Canada and the Middle East. His deliberation in the webinar reflected his in -depth knowledge on the burning issue of Climate change.

In his presentation, Dr. Goswami talked of the cause of climate change; increase of temperature of the earth; its resultant impact on our lives; and steps to be taken to minimize the crisis. He also talked of countries like Canada, South Korea, and the Middle East where he spent many years as a scientist; their culture of garbage disposal and the supportive attitude of the people towards their governments. He also urged the participants to co-operate with the Government to resolve garbage problems and follow protocols in the Covid situation. He appealed to the Morigaon College Management to create an eco friendly campus. Dr. Goswami highly appreciated the Saturday agenda of Morigaon College of commuting on public vehicles to slow down the emission of Green House Gases and the different plantation drives undertaken by the college.

Dr. Jogen Ch Kalita, HOD, Department of Zoology, Gauhati University, General Secretary of Zoological Society of Assam and President, Governing Body, Morigaon College was present as a Guest of honour. He congratulated all the organisers for making possible an international webinar of such a standard with an immensely relatable topic vis-a-vis today’s scenario which is of relevance to one and all. He also pleaded the authorities of the College to collaborate with Dr. Goswami for the benefit of the students of the institution. Dr. Priyabrata Lahkar, President, Zoological Society of Assam was also present in the webinar as a Guest of Honour; he congratulated all the organisers for their efforts.

Around 230 participants from different parts of Assam and , including Professors of Universities and Colleges, Research scholars, Students participated in the webinar. Dr. Bhagyashree Mahanta, Co-ordinator of the webinar, smoothly conducted the program from the start and Dr. Kamal Ch. Bhuyan, HOD, Department of Zoolgoy, Morigaon College offered the Vote of Thanks.
