Queenstown

Queenstown Rafting began life in 1974 and has become New Zealand’s largest white water rafting company. Providing adventure experiences from calm to wild waters, half day to multi-day rafting, adventure combos and guided walks, there is something for everyone.

RIVERS: Queenstown Rafting predominately operates on the Kawarau and Shotover rivers in Queenstown. Each river has its own personality and provides a completely unique experience:

Kawarau River – Super scenic, playful and fun for all! The Kawarau River is ideal for first time rafters and suited to those looking for a more relaxed rafting experience, or groups of mixed ability and ages. There is plenty of white water action, but also time to sit back, relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery. The Kawarau River starred as the river Anduin in The Lord of the Rings. The grandeur of the canyons imparts a feeling of paddling through the heart of Middle Earth. Enjoy the unforgettable 400m long Dog Leg Rapid - New Zealand’s longest commercially rafted rapid before returning to Queenstown for a sauna and shower at Cavells Rafting Base.

Shotover River – Serious whitewater action! Begin with an unforgettable into Skippers Canyon, famous for it's exciting cliff edges and gold mining history. Meet your river guide before beginning your white water rafting journey through the spectacular Shotover River Canyon. Rafting from Deep Creek over peaceful waters at first, you’ll head toward the exhilarating rapids of the lower Canyon. The adrenaline pumps as you paddle through Grade 3-5 rapids, before you raft through complete darkness in the 170m Oxenbridge Tunnel and shoot down Cascade Rapid to complete your adventure. Enjoy a sauna and hot shower at Cavells Rafting Base before returning to Queenstown.

FOOD & BEVERAGE The fully licenced Cavells Café & Bar is nestled on the banks of the Shotover River next door to the Cavells Rafting Base. With its outstanding views of the mountains and a great outdoor area it is perfect for pre or post activity refreshment options.
