Falls Church Recreation & Parks

Winter/Spring 2021 Registration Dates: Residents: January 4; Non-Residents: January 11 Register Online at www.fallschurchva.gov/recreation Dear Residents, The Recreation and Parks Department continues to reinvent what we do for our community. Over the last several months, we’ve introduced new and well thought-out programming with careful attention to safety, health, inclusivity, and equality. Our Recreation and Parks team has been working hard throughout this COVID-19 pandemic to continue to provide high quality programs and amenities to our community. Some of these accomplishments include: • The creation and implementation of our Rec Connect program which serves as an E-Learning site for youth in grades K-5. • Our modified Fall youth soccer and flag football programs, which recently wrapped up. We are now taking on the challenge of youth basketball this season with new safety protocols, including no spectators. • Many of our Senior Center programs, which we facilitated in both virtual and outdoor settings. This winter we will offer limited indoor programming and we have added virtual Bingo to our activity line-up. • Our Farmers Market has been operating successfully by following local health department guidelines, including mask requirements and social distancing protocols. Nearly 40 vendors participate in our weekly Farmers Market “To-Go” format. In addition to our modified fall programs and activities, our parks and outdoor amenities remained open for all members of the community to enjoy. Despite the upcoming cold weather, we hope you’ll continue to visit our parks to combat any cases of winter cabin-fever. Here are a few things to keep on your park radar:

• The Big Chimneys Park Improvements Project is nearly complete. Expect to be swinging from the monkey bars in early 2021. • Tennis is spiking in popularity. You can make a court reservation online at www.fallschurchva.gov/tennis. • Another round of our popular park-themed Scavenger Hunt in early 2021. • For local businesses who need outdoor space, we’ll continue to rent picnic shelters and other outdoor programming space as part of our Temporary Commercial Activity Program until March 2021 (at least). Visit www.fallschurchva.gov/rentals to learn more. In this Winter/Spring 2021 program brochure, you will find a variety of classes that are both indoor, in-person classes, outdoor classes and virtual classes to meet everyone’s comfort level. All classes being held in-person are done so in accordance with revised health and safety guidelines. The Community Center is only open to individuals attending scheduled programs. We do not permit family members to remain in the building during classes. The Recreation and Parks Department will continue to work hard to modify existing programs and create new socially distant activities to provide entertainment, exercise, and enjoyment for every household. It is our department’s priority to always think about inclusivity when programming, and always ask the question of how we can help unite our community, our region, our world. The City remains proud of our parks and all programming that makes up the Recreation and Parks Department and will continue to use both in this most important platform of equality. To stay informed, we encourage you to sign up to receive the Falls Church Recreation and Parks Departments Monthly Newsletter! Head to www.fallschurchva.gov/recreation, find the Newsletter subscription on the right side of the screen and enter your information. Feel free to email [email protected] with any suggestions!
