Festive Blessing The current owners had an eye both for luxury and quality when it came to the design of their new home, for which they chose the name Mistletoe Lodge. As they explained, “We moved into our beautiful family home in Christmas 1999, and hence the name Mistletoe.” The property offers an abundance of living space downstairs, including a sizeable sitting room with an inglenook fireplace, a large family room, a dining room again with an inglenook fireplace, and a kitchen/diner with a hand-built kitchen. Dining In Style One of the owners’ favourite and most used rooms for entertaining is the dining room, a very versatile space with plenty of natural light and a large wood burner with attractive brick surround in between the kitchen and sitting room. They remarked, “It is the real hub of the house. It brings the outside in with wonderful views of the woodland and garden. The terrace just outside has been wonderful for barbecues and eating al fresco.” They have celebrated many memorable occasions in this room, from christenings and birthdays to numerous parties for family and friends. The sitting room ranks as their overall favourite room in the house, with its wonderfully luxurious living space and the benefit of a wood burner with an attractive stone mantle. “On a winters day, with the fire going, nothing beats it,” the owners said. Gorgeous Garden Views The kitchen boasts a fabulous feature window which never fails to impress new visitors to the house with its views of the established trees outside, including horse chestnut and oak, and borders planted with a range of interesting plants and shrubs. The high quality of craftsmanship is apparent throughout the house, with substantial doors of solid oak and wonderfully intricate detailing to the staircase spindles and acorn shaped finials. All the floors in the property are either of solid wood or attractively tiled. Upstairs there is a light and spacious galleried landing with ample storage cupboards, and four double bedrooms, including an en-suite to the master bedroom and a stunning large family bathroom. Peaceful Haven “The garden is a peaceful haven, with a lovely terraced area where we always eat our meals when the weather allows,” the owners said. At a third of an acre, the garden and its area of secluded woodland is rich with wildlife, ranging from blue and green tits to a barn owl which visits regularly, along with deer and hedgehogs. The trees in the garden include mature oaks and a spectacular chestnut tree. Also present are a range of hydrangeas, viburnums, hostas and roses, but the clear favourite as winter approaches is the striking belt of bluebells. “It’s a lovely sight under the dapple of the line-green beech,” say the owners. Ideal Location “We couldn’t have been happier living in this beautiful area with lovely country walks,” the owners said, mentioning in particular the nature reserve of Hoe Rough, a conservation area opened by David Bellamy. “Beetley is a very nice place to live with a caring community,” they added. At only a twenty-minute drive from Norwich and twenty-five from Holkham with its celebrated beaches, it is ideally located, and also close to all the amenities you could hope for just five minutes away in the market town of Dereham.
