THE HISTORY OF MODERN HOME PRODUCTS (MHP) IT PAYS TO WORK WITH A PIONEER IN THE BUSINESS

MHP has a long history of listening to industry demands and meeting or exceeding expectations.

1957 MODERN HOME PRODUCTS (MHP) was founded in 1957 by Walter Koziol and was the first manufacturer in decorative gas lighting for residential applications. Gas lighting was Charmglow 300 Series 1960 marketed under the trade name Charmglow. The world’s first outdoor gas grill was invented by Walter marketed under the trade name of Perfect Host. The Perfect Host was a 22-1/2"″ round portable cart unit available in natural or LP gas and constructed of steel.

The Perfect Host changed the way the world 1961 cooks-out and laid the foundation for the gas Charmglow had become a household name, grill industry. so MHP changed the company name to Charmglow Products. Deterioration or damage due to severe weather conditions such as hail, excessive humidity, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, or other acts of God are not covered by this Limited Warranty. Discoloration of Stainless Steel including but not exclusive to surface rust is normal and is not covered by this Warranty. Therefore the discoloration, surface rust or rust are not covered unless there is a loss of structural integrity or rust through.

Turn your Profire Grill into a true all briquette system. Unlike other brand options, ours is built to last using a 4 gauge, 304 stainless steel wire grate that is resistant to premature rusting and does not allow items to get trapped in or on the grate. The briquettes, which cover the whole bottom of the grill, are placed at a greater distance from the cooking grate than most of our competitors, translating into less flare-ups and a more even heat pattern. Since porcelain is a better conductor of heat this also means that our system will cook more reliably and produce better results. When assembled and operated in accordance with the printed instructions accompanying it. ProFire requires reasonable proof of your date of purchase. Therefore, you must retain your sales slip or invoice. Grill must be registered within 60 days of purchase for warranty to be valid. This warranty is in effect for all grills purchased after April 1, 2018.

Grills in a commercial, community or multi-tenant application will have a 1 year warranty on all parts.

This Limited Warranty shall be limited to the repair or replacement of parts which prove defective under normal use and service and which on examination, shall indicate to ProFire’s satisfaction, they are defective. Warranty is for parts only. There is no warranty for labor. Before returning any parts, contact the ProFire Customer Service Department. If ProFire confirms the defect and approves the claim, ProFire will elect to replace such parts without charge. If you are required to return defective parts, transportation charges must be prepaid. ProFire will return parts to the purchaser, freight or postage prepaid.

This Limited Warranty does not cover failures or operating difficulties due to accident, abuse, misuse, alteration, misapplication, vandalism, improper installation or improper maintenance or service, or failure to perform normal and routine maintenance, including but not limited to damage caused by insects within the burner tubes, as set out in the owner’s manual.

Discoloration due to exposure of chemicals either directly or in the atmosphere such as chlorine, fertilizers, lawn pesticides, and salt can affect the Stainless Steel components and for this reason does not full under the warranty terms. Deterioration or damage due to severe weather conditions such as hail, excessive humidity, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, or other acts of God are not covered by this Limited Warranty. Discoloration of Stainless Steel including but not exclusive to surface rust is normal and is not covered by this Warranty. Therefore the discoloration, surface rust or rust are not covered unless there is a loss of structural integrity or rust through.

There are no other express warrants except as set forth herein and any applicable implied warranties of merchantability and fitness are limited in duration to the period of coverage of this express written Limited Warranty.

ProFire is not liable for any special, indirect or consequential damages. All warranties are non-transferable and apply only to the original purchaser. Warranties are null and void if grills are put into commercial or community use. ProFire does not authorize any person or company to assume for it any other obligation or liability in connection with the sale, installation, use, removal, return, or replacement of its equipment; and no such representations are binding on ProFire. Implied warranty shall not extend beyond the duration of this written warranty. This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties expressed or implied and all other obligations or liability in connection with the sale of this appliance.

Converting Grills from NG to LP or LP to NG To convert an MHP grill from one gas type to another, you will need to replace both the valve and orifice. If you only change the orifice, you will have no control over the heat settings on the grill. It will burn at high, and you will not be ableto turn it down. Please contact us, or check MHPGrillPartsOnline.com to determine which conversion kit you will need.

Replacing Ignitor Battery If you do not hear any clicking when you push the ignitor button, it may be time to replace the battery. Unscrew the ignitor push button and collar. Remove the old battery. Install a new AAA battery into the battery compartment, positive (+) side down. Replace the push button and collar.

Where to Find Your Grill Model Number The model number tag on your MHP grill is located on the left end cap of the control panel. On some built-in grills, the model number tag wll be on the underside of the grease tray.

Material Peeling Inside Top Casting There is no paint applied on the inside of your grill lid. What you are seeing is a carbon build-up. It does resemble peeling paint, but it is simply grease/food residue that can be scraped off. You can use a wadded up ball of aluminum foil, or a plastic flat blade putty knife to scrape off the majority of the food build-up. The loosened material can then be removed with a shop vac.

Which way do you put in a battery in my ignitor? Positive side goes down.

Flames have come out the front of my grill by my knobs This is called a Flashback. Flashbacks are caused by an obstruction in either your venturi tubes or in the orifices.

Can I cook food over my Infra-Red burner when it is not in use? No, you will not be able to cook food over the Infra-Red Burner when it is not in use it will damage the burner and crack the ceramic.

Can I wash my briquettes with soap and water? No, you will not want to get your briquettes wet. You will want to either flip them over or use a brush and brush them off.

What is the warranty on my MHP grill in a commercial setting? In a commercial setting, there is a One Year Warranty on all components.

To clean my MHP burner/venturi can I use compressed air? No, you will not want to use compressed air you will want to use the provided venturi tube brush to clean your venturis. By using the air you are not removing the obstruction just blowing it out of the way.

95 My cast oval burner is only lighting on one side? Over time the portholes will close up you will want to re-open these ports by either drilling them back open or you can sandblast this burner.

My infra-red burner is popping when I light my grill? You will want to clean our infra-red burner and retry your burner and if you are having the same result with the popping sound you have a bad ceramic seal and you will need to get this replaced.

My wire mesh screen on my infra-red burner has rusted away. You will need to get your infra-red burner replaced.

How long is my warranty on my infra-red burner? The infra-red burner has a five-year warranty from the date of purchase. Your grill must be registered with MHP.

My valve is hard to turn. You can spray some WD-40 on your valve make sure your grill is not in use when doing so.

What can I use on my Stainless Steel cooking grids? You can use oven cleaner but you will want to clean them after you use oven cleaner.

What should I do for my first time cooking on my SearMagic cooking grids? For the first use, you will want to put olive oil on your food you will not want to use any type of non-stick spray on your cooking grids.

My SearMagic grids are warping? To straighten out warped SearMagic cooking grids you will want to warm one grid up at a time on your MHP grill for about 10 min. remove from grill lay on a flat hard surface and apply pressure to each corner and your cooking grid will straighten out. Continue the process on other SearMagic Cooking Grids.

Can I put my SearMagic Cooking grids in the dishwasher? No, you will not want to put your SearMagic cooking grids in the dishwasher the temp of the water will get too hot and melt your cooking grids.

Is there a coating on the SearMagic grids? No there is no coating on the SearMagic cooking grids.

HOW TO CLEAN SEARMAGIC COOKING GRIDS

You can use a brass bristle brush to clean SearMagic cooking grids when the grids are hot. When the grids are cold, you can soak them in a Rubbermaid-type container filled with hot water and a grease-cutting dish soap like Dawn, and then scrub with a brass bristle brush or a nylon dish scrubber.

Every time you use your grill, you can take the grid on the left, flip it over, and move it to the right end of the grill, and slide the other grid(s) over to the left, and then pre-heat the grill for 10 minutes on high. Also, heat the grill to high and let it run for 10 minutes after you finish cooking. This will help to burn off anything that has dripped onto the grids.

There is a wood scraping tool (GGWB5), which is like a large wooden two-tined fork, which is designed to help remove clumps of food, marinades, etc. from between the ridges on the SearMagic cooking grids. There is also a narrow, brass bristle brush (GGWB10) which is designed to fit between the ridges on the SearMagic cooking grids.

How do you convert from one gas type to another? Each burner has its own orifice. Remove the burner and remove orifice. Install correct orifice. Reinstall burner.

Where is the model and serial number located? On older models it is on the left inner wall of the grill. On current models it is on the bottom side of the drip pan.

The ignitor is not working. The battery may need replacing. Unscrew the ignitor button, replace AAA battery.

How do I clean the outside of the grill? To remove grease build up, use Simple Green or similar product. After grease is removed us an oil base stainless polish. For discoloration and burnt on stains, MHP stainless cleaner can be used. Do not use steel wool.

Is discoloration of the stainless steel normal? Yes, discoloration from the intense heat and grease build up is normal and is not covered under warranty.

How do you clean the natural discoloration of the stainless steel? Discoloration and burnt on stains can be removed with the MHP stainless steel cleaner and follow the directions exactly on the back of the bottle and rub with the grain of the stainless. Never use steel wool to clean a stainless steel grill.

What do you need for warranty claim? Model number, serial number and proof of purchase. Grill must also be registered with Modern Home Products within 60 days of purchase.

Where can a customer register their new ProFire grill with Modern Home Products? They can visit www.profiregrills.com/warranty-registration/ or mail in the warranty registration card that was included with their new grill.

When does the new ProFire Lifetime Warranty go into effect? On grills purchased after April 1, 2018. Grills purchased before April 1, 2018 fall under our original lifetime warranty.

Will the cast aluminum drip pan fit the original Phoenix Grills? Yes, the new cast aluminum drip pan has the same specs as the original drip pan only now it’s made out of cast aluminum.

Will the cooking grate fit the original Phoenix Grills? Yes, the new cooking grid has the same specs as the original.

Will the gas valves work for an original Phoenix Grill? No, the valves do not have the same specs.

What temperature ranges can you expect from a Phoenix grill? Phoenix grills have an expected temperature range between 250˚ - 500˚. However, remember weather conditions factor into the performance of any grill.

Is discoloration of the stainless steel normal? Yes, discoloration from the intense heat and grease build up is normal and is not covered under warranty.

How do you clean the stainless steel on the outside of the grill? To remove the grease build up first use Simple Green or similar product with a soft cloth rubbing with the grain. After grease is removed, use an oil-based stainless polish and clean cloth again rubbing with the grain.

Where do you find the serial number on your grill? The serial number is located on the left end cap of the control panel.

What if the ignitor is not clicking when the button is pushed? The battery may need to be replaced. Unscrew the ignitor button, replace with an AAA battery with positive end down.

Gas Lamp Usage Costs Our gas lamps use 2.68 cubic ft. per hour, or roughly 1,900 cubic ft. per month or 19 Therms. Simply multiply your cost per therm from your gas provider by 19 to get a rough monthly cost.

What needs to be replaced when converting gas type for a lamp or torch? All that needs to be replaced when converting gas types is the proper orifice on a gas lamp or torch.

What is a bat wing burner? Our open flame burner is commonly referred to as a bat wing due to the appearance of the flame when lit.

How long should the MTL2 mantles last? Weather conditions such as heavy winds and rain will factor in to the life expectancy of the mantles due to their delicate nature. As a general rule you should expect them to last 3 to 4 months.

What if the ceramic ring on the MTL2 mantle is a bit too small because of the ceramic tabs and will not fit on the burner tip? A small file can be used to file down each of the tabs on the ceramic ring to make them hang properly on the burner tip.

Do you offer a wall mount gas lamp option? No, unfortunately, the wall mount versions of the lamps were discontinued several years ago.

Can you have the electronic start on a lamp with dual inverted mantles? No, due to the delicate nature of the mantles they are prone to breaking and are intended to be lit 24/7.

Which lamp burner style creates the brightest light? The dual inverted burner option offers the brightest light followed by the upright burner option. The open flame burner option is for more of an ambiance rather than light.

Are the torches UL or CSA approved? Unfortunately, we are not able to have the torches UL or CSA approved because currently there are no standards set for them to test against for this type of product.

Modern Home Products has a number of items that we replace under warranty.

RMA NUMBER For all returns you must obtain a Return Authorization Number from your distributor or directly from Modern Home Products.

Additional information will need to be obtained before any item is replaced or credited under MHP’s warranty policy.

1. Original bill of sale or grill must be registered with MHP 2. Serial Number 3. Model 4. MHP will need date of purchase, serial number, model & warranty cause referenced on warranty P.O.’s. 5. Photos of items to be warrantied may be required to expedite the warranty process.

Below is a list of items that will need to be returned F.O.B. to MHP before credits or replacements are sent. If needed, warranty invoices will have 90 day terms providing ample time for return to receive credit.
