Employment in this sector was fairly steady from 2006 through 2008, but has since then has dropped precipitously. Since the 2007 peak, employment had declined 11.8 percent to its lowest point in 2013, but has started to increase slowly since. The downward trend also applied to industry wages; however, they have increased since 2007, with 2015 sitting at an average annual wage of $18,642, just shy of the 2010 high of $18,705. The average annual wage had shown growth, before declining since 2010; however, between 2013 and 2015 has actually grown by 7.1 percent, breaking a three-year streak of declines. Women hold a slight majority of the jobs in this industry, holding 51.0 percent of all jobs.
