Location 390km south-east of Antananarivo, 4km from Ranomafana National Park, in the rural commune of Tsaratanana in the province of Fianarantsoa.

The site The conservation activities are concentrated on the land of 5 “fokontany” (= the smallest Bamboo lemur administrative subdivision in Madagascar that Programme includes several villages): Vohitrarivo, Sahofika, Ambodimanga, Ambodigoavy and Ambohipo.

The Bamboo Lemur programme is tripartite. It brings together local Malagasy stakeholders (villagers, Ra- nomafana National Park officials) andHelpsimus who define together the list of priority actions.

The Bamboo Lemur Programme now works with 5 fokontany. This is the smallest administrative subdivision in Madagascar that generally groups together several villages.

At Vohitrarivo, the participants in the meeting agreed to attach the dogs close to their owner while he works in the fields. Helpsimus has undertaken to provide collars and leashes so that the dogs can be attached under good conditions. About thirty dogs are apparently affected according to an inventory completed in September 2015 by our coordinator Nary. This step (which will be effective next year, allowing time to find a possible partnership and to buy the equipment) must be accompanied by increasing the awareness of the owners.

The problem of snares

A young individual from Group II was observed with a snare around a foot (a trap intended for wild fowl). This case shows that laying snares continues and so it will be necessary to promote specific awareness in the villages using this practice which is dangerous for

When night fell, videos and environmental films were projected on a giant screen to the great surprise of some tourists who were thrilled to attend such an occasion!

Finally, around 10 p.m., the entire Helpsimus team opened the party that continued until the early hours.

Since 2013 and the first edition of the Simus Festival, this moment of sharing has become essential. By consolidating existing friendships (and creating new ones every time), it is a reminder of our common commitment to the protection of the greater bamboo lemur, bamboo forests and biodiversity.
