EDGARDO J. ANGARA, Master of Laws, University of Michigan, U.S.A., 1964. He is president of the University of the (May 1981) A practising lawyer, along with other named associates,before he was appointed to his present post . A well-known figure in legal par· lance, he was elected president of the Philippine Bar Association (1975· 76); the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (1978 to date) and the ASEAN Law Alumni Association. Among his awards are DeWitt Fello�, Michigan Law School, Universit y of Michigan, 1963-64 ; Columbia Law School Scholarship Grantee (1963), and was elected to Life Membership to the Inter· national Honor Societies of Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Gamma Mu.

JULIAN A. BANZON, Ph. D. Academician, in Biophysical Chemistry, Iowa State University, 1940, Emeritus Professor of Food Science and Technology, University of the Philippines at Baiios and Scientific Los Consultant , Maya Farms, Philippine Coconut Authority and Philippine Coconut Research and Development Foundation. most important His recognitions include, Professor Emeritus at UPLB, Chemist of the Year Award by the Professi onal Regulation Commission , 1978, PHILSUGIN award for Research , Crop Science Society of the Philippines, 1976 and the Distinguished Service Award con ferred by the Integrated Chemists of the Philippines, Inc. in 1980. His primary research interests are on the chemical aspects of food and energy. Ten publications on coconut as a renewable source of energy, two on the fermentive utilization of cassava and three on photochlorination of coconut oil are only a few of such researches geared towards energy and the utilization of local plant materials.

ENCARNACION ALZONA, Ac�emician. Ph.D. . She has become specialized in Philippine History . Dr. Alzona has received several national awards in recognition of her dedication to historical writings that brought about Philippine hist ory in a nationalist ­ ic perspective . Among these awards are : Republic Cuhural Heritage Award fo r Historical Writing in 1966, Rizal Pro-Patria Award and Apolinario Mabini Memorial Award. The Philippine Women's Univer­ sity had conferred on her a degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa . She engrossed on researches involving important people and events is in Philippine past , one of these ab out T.H. Pardo de Tavera. With is these series of works, she initiated the translation of several works of our national heroes from Spanish to English . She sees a chance of fair getting these published the future. in

107 JOSE ENCARNACION, JR., Academician, Ph.D. in Economics, Prince· ton University. A Professor since 1960, named Dean at the School of Economics, University of the Philippines in 197 4 - present.
