Burton Grammar School Old Boys’ Association Founded 1921 Newsletter Number 45 Published: March 2018 by the committee of the BGS Old Boys’ Association 2 Letter from the President Elect: ….. I was pleasantly surprised to be elected Vice President of the BGSOBA at the AGM in May 2017 as I had not been an active member of the committee prior to this appointment. My main commitment over the last twenty plus years has been as a trustee, and for the last ten years as the Chairman of the Beyne School Foundation Charity. The charity was founded to support pupils from the Grammar School and the Girls High School. This is now distributed between the four Secondary Schools within the old Burton borough. This support is ongoing due to income from the charities investments and rental from four properties. This experience has enabled me to interact with the successors of the old Burton Grammar School. I have enjoyed my year as Vice President and look forward to serving the Association as your President in 2018/2019. Remembrance Day Service – Friday 10th November 2017 President John Ash was one of twelve Old Boys who attended the Remembrance service. As usual, it was very professionally and sensitively delivered by the head teacher, Annabel Stoddart, seen here with representatives of the Association. Old Boys in attendance were: David Leese; Malcolm Watson; Graham Marshment; Robert Andrews; Peter Appleby; John Ash (President); Deryck Barker; John Taylor (VP); Richard Bell; Richard Wain. To the right of Annabel Stoddart are Peter Evanson and Andrew Gentles. 3 Sad news of the President: John Ash ….

  • Brizlincote Parish Council Newsletter
Brizlincote Parish Council Newsletter Issue 29 Autimn/Winter 2019 The Chairman’s Message Well, quite a lot has happened over the summer. We had the Parish Council election and since then your Councillors have been busy. The Speed Watch team have been out encouraging road users to be considerate of the speed limits and when they are active the results are encouraging. The formulation of a Parish Plan has progressed, and we are now able to start consultation with you, the Parishioners. On Page 7 you will find much more detail and an invite to an inaugural meeting at the Glebe on 10th October where you can tell us what concerns you and bring your ideas for inclusion in the plan. On 7th August our defibrillator team staged an information seminar which was well attended and informative. Having seen the gardens some of you have created, I am surprised more have not entered our Brizlincote in Bloom competition. Perhaps more of you keen gardeners will consider entering next year! Entry is free and the prizes of gardening vouchers very worthwhile. As your Parish Council, we will continue to work on your behalf to maintain Brizlincote as a pleasant area in which to live and work. Your feedback on how we are doing is always welcome. Best wishes to you all Councillor Robin Ludford-Brooks Traffic Calming Members of the Parish Council are looking into ways that speeding traffic in the area can perhaps be reduced. A number of suggestions have been made and are being discussed with Staffordshire County Council Highways prior to detailed plans being formulated in order to avoid unnecessary costs and time being wasted.
