E D I T O R I A L Violence Sometimes Is The Best — And Only Solution THE bromide sounds so good and comfy: “Violence never solves anything!”. That’s why so many people accept it. That’s why they unthinkingly pass it on. That’s why, despite it’s being bullshit, the damn catch phrase has become almost a guide for those poor saps who now live in a feral world and who feel helpless to deal with it. “Well,” they tell themselves, “violence certainly is no solution. We’ve just got to find ways to encourage dialog with troublemakers, and talk out our differences.” The truth is that while always regrettable, recourse to physical force is sometimes desperately necessary and completely justifiable. This fact —— this concept —— was once understood as being axiomatic. No sane person questioned, for example, that the absolute right to self-defense existed for everyone; everywhere, and at all times. Today, a great deal of confusion has been allowed to permeate the minds of formerly sensible people, and we observe such horse manure as “zero tolerance for violence” being announced as policy in the public schools —— making a bully’s victim as culpable as the bully if that victim defends himself. -

Best Factory Knives of Blade's First 40 Years
BEST FACTORY KNIVES OF BLADE’S FIRST 40 YEARS Table of Contents Chapter 1 Best Factory Knives 1973-1988 Chapter 2 Best Factory Knives 1989-2000 Chapter 3 Best Factory Knives 2001-2012 Chapter 1 Best Factory Knives 1973-1988 They may have been your father’s knives or your grandfather’s knives—they may even be your knives. To help celebrate its 40th anniversary, BLADE released a three-part series recognizing the top 40 factory knives over that span (1973-2013). The first chapter pinpoints the top factory knives from 1973-88. We compiled a list of some top factory knives over that stretch and submitted them to a panel of veteran knife observers and asked them to select their top five to 10—or however many they felt comfortable choosing. Though “top factory knives” can be subjective, we determined a top factory knife is one that excelled in terms of setting a standard that other companies attempted to emulate, and/or excelled in quality of craftsmanship, originality and creativity—or both. We no doubt inadvertently omitted knives that should be included. As a result, we asked our panel members to add those and rank them in their lists, too. The panel members: knife writers James Morgan Ayres, BLADE field editor Kim Breed, Durwood Hollis, Blade Magazine Cutlery Hall-Of-Fame member Bernard Levine and Mac Overton; Pete Cohan, former curator of the National Knife Museum; writer/photographer Terrill Hoffman; Roy Huntington, editor of American Handgunner Magazine; and Rick Thronburg of William Henry. Some of the knives ranked herein were made before 1973. -
The Lure of the Balisong Some Weapons Experts Say the Balisong Or Butterfly Knife Opens Faster Than a Switchblade
Lye’s law The Lure of the Balisong Some weapons experts say the balisong or butterfly knife opens faster than a switchblade. It certainly makes a great impression when twirled in the hand and opening and closing the blade with each resolution. But is it practical, or legal? In a stressful situation, the last thing one would be thinking about is how to flail the balisong. It is indeed very tricky to deploy properly. In Australia, there is no good reason for anyone to own or carry a balisong other than to train in one’s martial arts style. -

Secret Intelligence Service Knife Fighting Scrapbook Courtesy – borrowed from the FSB Knife fighting. The KGB/FSB Special Forces System (C-I) For self-defense, in principle, one can approach any knife. In shootouts can be used makeshift items that have piercing-cutting properties. In the latter case, the range of tools of intimidation and attack can be very wide - from razor to a sharpened file. If only it was possible to cut and chop. But the goals pursued by the use of cold weapons of close combat, in this case are simple - bullying, intimidation and murder. In fact, it's not a knife fight. The knife fight as a real martial art is used in the limited and specific legal purposes: to protect the homeland, fulfill orders in the melee, or perform special tasks. From a legal point of view, it is the use of a knife fight and corresponding weapons - combat knife, [1] despite the fact that the weapon in the hands of a professional can be any - is not only fighting with a knife. Modern Combat Knife Actually, the combat knife can only be regarded as a knife, officially put into service by the army or other security forces. The rest of the knives differ not only as per their legal status, but also functionality, and can be categorized as cutting, souvenir, etc. A special class of non-lethal self-defense knife does not exist. The combat knife - the only kind of knives, focus on the use of anti-human. Yes. At the armed units of the Russian Armed Forces for example and UK SAS, today are the HP-43 knives "Cherry", "Katran", "Wag-1" and NR-2 and others. -

It might not look like much, but the VG blade and G10 handle make this a seriously durable and useful knife. However, it seems to get the job done while standing up to harsh conditions, and the innovations in design are truly unique. The resulting design was influenced by the knives that Fairbairn and Sykes had experimented with in Shanghai, as well as earlier designs produced by Wilkinson. -
