The Next Installment in the Cormoran Strike Series from the Internationally The next installment in the Cormoran Strike series from the internationally bestselling author Robert Galbraith Private detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he is approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough, who went missing under mysterious circumstances in 1974. Strike has never tackled a cold case before, let alone one forty years old. But despite the slim chance of success, he is intrigued and takes it on, adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency, Robin Ellacott, are currently working on. And Robin herself is also juggling a messy divorce and unwanted male attention, as well as battling her own feelings about Strike. As Strike and Robin investigate Margot’s disappearance, they come up against a fiendishly complex case with leads that include tarot cards, a psychopathic serial killer and witnesses who cannot all be trusted. And they learn that even cases forty years old can prove to be deadly... A breathtaking, labyrinthine epic, Troubled Blood is the fifth Strike and Robin novel and the most gripping and satisfying yet. ROBERT GALBRAITH is a pseudonym for J.K. Rowling, bestselling author of the Harry Potter series and The Casual Vacancy. The four previous Strike novels, The Cuckoo’s Calling, The Silkworm, Career of Evil and Lethal White, topped the national and international bestseller lists, and the series has been adapted for television, produced by Brontë Film and Television. He's a tough guy, burly ex-soldier with half a leg missing, but he also went to Oxford, so he can translate a Latin phrase before he dislocates your jaw with his fist (...) There are so many problems with The Silkworm, least of all the complete lack of pace or intrigue (...) if Rowling was actually a man called Robert Galbraith, she probably wouldn't get away with describing so many women as "curvaceous" and adorning them with "clinging " dresses. (Hamilton 46) The quotation comes from a rather ironic review of the second instalment of Robert Galbraith's detective series, The Silkworm, by Ben Hamilton, published in The Spectator.

  • Why Cancel Culture Is
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Why cancel culture is ‘obscene’ Attacked and falsely accused of transphobia, award-winning author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is hitting back, excoriating her critics and their sanctimonious hypocrisy. Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is calling out social media hypocrisy and ‘sanctimony’. By Rosemary Neill July 9, 2021 When the Nigerian literary star Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was accused of being transphobic on social media, her initial default position was to remain silent. The winner of the Orange and PEN Pinter prizes is famous — her TED talk calling for more diversity in storytelling attracted almost nine million views — so she figured that people posting false or distorted claims about her “comes with the territory’’. As the online abuse continued, Adichie became concerned that “in this age of social media, where a story travels the world in minutes, silence sometimes means that other people can hijack your story and soon their false version becomes the defining story about you”. Last month, the author of celebrated fiction works Purple Hibiscus, Half of a Yellow Sun and Americanah, decided she had had enough. In an eloquent yet ferocious essay 2 titled It is Obscene, she called out social media militancy and accused two of her former writing students of “insulting” or trying to cancel her, and engaging in “ugly opportunism” after she remarked that “trans women are trans women” in a 2017 television interview. Recently, she was attacked online again — and even accused of trying to “kill children” — after she described an essay that Harry Potter author JK Rowling penned on sex and gender as “a perfectly reasonable piece”.

  • The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith Abou
The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith __________________________________________________________________________________________ About the author: Robert Galbraith is a pseudonym for J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series. When asked why she chose to write under a pseudonym and as a man, J.K. Rowling answered: “To begin with I was yearning to go back to the beginning of a writing career in this new genre, to work without hype or expectation and to receive totally unvarnished feedback. It was a fantastic experience and I only wish it could have gone on a little longer than it did. I was grateful at the time for all the feedback from publishers and readers, and for some great reviews. Being Robert Galbraith was all about the work, which is my favourite part of being a writer. Now my cover has been blown, I plan to continue to write as Robert to keep the distinction from other writing. I certainly wanted to take my writing persona as far away as possible from me, so a male pseudonym seemed a good idea. I chose Robert because it is one of my favourite men’s names, because Robert F. Kennedy is my hero and because, mercifully, I hadn’t used it for any of the characters in the Potter series or The Casual Vacancy. Galbraith came about for a slightly odd reason. When I was a child, I really wanted to be called ‘Ella Galbraith’, and I’ve no idea why. I don’t even know how I knew that the surname existed, because I can’t remember ever meeting anyone with it.
